People who hate reminded me of the KKK and the majority of these haters happen to be Chloisers, Chlarkers, etc

Wow, fandom: totally a political statement.

Sure then.

[identity profile] frelling-tralk.livejournal.com 2009-04-07 12:49 pm (UTC)(link)
Yep, disliking a fictional character is totally comparable to a racist hate group didn't you know.

[identity profile] galfridian.livejournal.com 2009-04-07 12:53 pm (UTC)(link)
Apparently I've been looking at life the wrong way.

[identity profile] ladydreamer.livejournal.com 2009-04-07 01:11 pm (UTC)(link)
This post for the win. Would it be inappropriate to link them to The Invisible Knapsack?

[identity profile] frelling-tralk.livejournal.com 2009-04-07 01:24 pm (UTC)(link)
That would most likely fly right over their heads judging by the responses so far. I don't think it's even occurred to them that it might have been fans of colour resenting being compared to a racist organisation, they can't see past everything being a shipping war

Grow up

holy shit.

Words fail me to express my disgust at such a statement.

[identity profile] frelling-tralk.livejournal.com 2009-04-07 01:51 pm (UTC)(link)
What's even more sickening is the number of comments posted in support of icons calling Chlois fans the "chlu chlux fans". Because of fictional character dislike

[identity profile] allzugern.livejournal.com 2009-04-07 02:08 pm (UTC)(link)
Seriously? What the fuck is wrong with people?? No grasp on reality and zero shame.

[identity profile] legendarytobes.livejournal.com 2009-04-07 02:01 pm (UTC)(link)
Ugh, so much disgust and sadness over this.

[identity profile] frelling-tralk.livejournal.com 2009-04-07 02:06 pm (UTC)(link)
I hate seeing how upset my friends are over this :/

[identity profile] legendarytobes.livejournal.com 2009-04-07 02:46 pm (UTC)(link)
I'll get over it. I just can't believe how fandom has disintegrated. It used to be fun, but this season?

Not so much.

[identity profile] ayanne-c.livejournal.com 2009-04-07 02:05 pm (UTC)(link)
Unbelievable. :\ No words for the stupidity of that statement.

[identity profile] frelling-tralk.livejournal.com 2009-04-07 02:11 pm (UTC)(link)
It's bizarre how people can't tell the difference between fictional characters and real people. Even our spec on wanting Lois killed off has now been twisted around into wanting the actress dead. I'm sure that will soon spread around fandom as fact that we all joke about killing Erica Durance, but oh well what can you do *sighs*

[identity profile] ayanne-c.livejournal.com 2009-04-07 02:18 pm (UTC)(link)
Call them out on it. Where are all these posts wanting ED to die?

ED is a bad actress, & being critical of her "skills" is not bashing. If someone does bad work or stupid things - it's not "Hate" to say so. That. is how life works. (I think their real issue is Allison *is* a great actress, Chloe *is* a great character. IMO)

Nois is a fictional character, who sucks.

Katie

A sense of perspective. Get one

Omg, hell yeah.

Seriously? That's one of the stupidest comments I've ever read, and I've been hanging around LJ for a bit now. Jeez.

[identity profile] frelling-tralk.livejournal.com 2009-04-07 04:01 pm (UTC)(link)
This fandom is shameless when it comes to how they treat others over fiction. I see people in the post in question pointing out how offensive the KKK comparison is to them, and people want to make it all about Chloiser's are getting back what they dish out/the Chloiser's are in there now defending their girl. It's got NOTHING to do with that, and people have repeatedly said they have no problem with the anti Chloe icons, just with the icons comparing Chloes fans to the KKK

It makes me sick that I come across that type of crap on my flist, I don't go looking for it, and now friends of mine are even feeling driven out of a general SV icon community :/

[identity profile] frelling-tralk.livejournal.com 2009-04-07 04:44 pm (UTC)(link)
:/

I wonder if it might be worth contacting the mod of the comm to clarifiy the rules, I know the Doctor Who icon comm ended up banning icons which attack other fans

[identity profile] meganlynn09.livejournal.com 2009-04-07 04:50 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, I think some of those icons were over the line. I'll keep my mouth shut about the character bashing ones, even if it irritates me, but the fan bashing ones were out of line.

Yes, some fans go over the top, but some hardcore fans of each and every character do. Whoever made those icons (I saw them) was just hypocritical and it was slightly disgusting.

Besides, these days, all I see is vitriol towards Chloe/AM in a lot of fandom, so now I don't know what they were talking about. (If it was something off LJ, I really don't know because I only have exposure to one Chlark comm and what I think is the main Smallville comm and icons of course)
Edited 2009-04-07 16:51 (UTC)

[identity profile] frelling-tralk.livejournal.com 2009-04-07 05:12 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh Chloe gets bashed plenty. The icon post itself had the common complaints on Chloe (and indirect Lana bashing too) which is quite hypocritical really.

It's fandom, there's always gonna be people taking their comments too far. I'm surely not going to compare anyone to the KKK for expressing an opinion on the internet, even if they are obnoxious about it (as all fans can be at times)

GODWIN'S LAW (http://wiki.fandomwank.com/index.php/Godwin%27s_Law)! They lose. And are also offensive and stupid.

[identity profile] frelling-tralk.livejournal.com 2009-04-07 05:35 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh someone already went there when a comm was started calling us "Chloe Sullivan nazi fans"

Petty fandom drama Vs Actual historical atrocities. I *think* there might be a pretty big distinction there, but who even cares to tell any more

Has anyone asked them if they've been, oh, I don't know, lynched or had their homes and churches burned down or members of their families shot...

That is seriously offensive. Throwing fandom shit at each other like crazy monkeys is one thing, but like you said, there's a line that you just don't cross. I remember reading about something similar happening in HP fandom when one ship compared their place in fandom to slavery. The mind truly boggles.

[identity profile] frelling-tralk.livejournal.com 2009-04-07 05:55 pm (UTC)(link)
All the arguing is just getting embarrassing for everyone so I'm not even touching the post in question, but yes people have brought up what the KKK has done, and asked if it's fair to make the comparison with hating a fictional character. Apparently so

Another group that is Hateful just so happens to be the KKK. I am saying those people who are hating are just as bad as them.

Someone should really definite for her the difference between hating a fictional character and lynching a human being.

Being unable to tell the difference between bashing a fictional character and bashing real people. This is one of the comments:

You know what there are haters out there that make icons and say they want to KILL people. I do not hate Chloe, I do not hate Lana, I do not hate Allison either. But I see Icons that say they want Lois or Jimmy to die.

So if anyone posts with an icon wanting a fictional character to be killed off, that means you want to KILL people. Of course, it all makes sense now

[identity profile] janetmaca.livejournal.com 2009-04-07 06:41 pm (UTC)(link)
*facepalm*

[identity profile] frelling-tralk.livejournal.com 2009-04-07 06:59 pm (UTC)(link)

Urgh. Yeah I just checked between my fingers, and was pleasantly surprised that it hasn't yet turned into how Chloiser's dish it out and we deserve what we get. Perhaps I'm just too used to the "you started it" whines from SV fandom at this point, although I wouldn't be surprised if certain names from SV fandom didn't soon make their appearance to complain about Chlois fans

[identity profile] mojotastic.livejournal.com 2009-04-07 06:53 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm cping what I said to [livejournal.com profile] deludedvision about this because I'm lazy:

I know! I saw that last night and I actually commented, which is something I never do with people that are obviously that stupid. But it's just like....WTF DUDE? WTF?

And I love that the girl is defending her icons/completely inappropriate comparsions to the KKK by being like "Well some Chlois/Chlark fans want Lois to die!" She is a fictional character omg you psycho. A FICTIONAL CHARACTER. She says that she's seen people saying that Erica should die but I've never seen any of this and I'm in the fandom and have seen some harsh things said about ED. But never anything about wanting her to die so I honestly think she's pulling this out of her ass because people want LOIS to die and she can't tell the difference between character and actor.

I can tell I'm going to be getting a lot of use out of my AM gansta icon. Chlois fans: We kill people apparently because we have opinions about fictional people.

[identity profile] frelling-tralk.livejournal.com 2009-04-07 06:57 pm (UTC)(link)
No one wants Erica Durance dead, when people complain of actress bashing they seem to really be talking about Lois bashing and can't tell the difference. Coming across an icon saying DIAF for the fictional character of Lois is not the same thing as wanting Erica dead, and yet the claim is that an icon with DIAF for a fictional character is actually worse than comparing fans to the KKK. Quoting this from their comments

You know what there are haters out there that make icons and say they want to KILL people. I do not hate Chloe, I do not hate Lana, I do not hate Allison either. But I see Icons that say they want Lois or Jimmy to die.

Another group that is Hateful just so happens to be the KKK. I am saying those people who are hating are just as bad as them

And we're supposedly the crazy ones? It's so so ridiculous

[identity profile] mojotastic.livejournal.com 2009-04-07 07:06 pm (UTC)(link)
I knooow! I saw that comment and just boggled at the stupid. She keeps claiming that she's seen fans say they want to see Erica dead but in the same breath goes "Yea! These fans want Lois and Jimmy to die!" which shows to me that she has no concept of character= not a real person.

And we're supposedly the crazy ones? It's so so ridiculous

I love that fandom keeps trying to brand us as the crazy ones. Try harder fandom. To the best of my knowledge we don't lead trolling attacks in other people's journals, email them Chlarky director's cuts, or compare them to the KKK. So....no. WE aren't the crazy ones in fandom. o_O

[identity profile] frelling-tralk.livejournal.com 2009-04-07 07:27 pm (UTC)(link)
It makes me laugh to see Trish as gung ho as ever on how Chloe fans don't get bashed, they just don't like being outnumbered. Failing to mention that she got banned from TWoP the very first time she posted because she is so intolerant of any opposing opinon. Not to mention she might talk up K site, but whoops forgetting to mention that she's had so many socks banned from K site because of how nasty she is, that Craig now has her IP logged to try as best as he can to keep her away from civilized people. And yet we're supposedly whining about rudeness and intolerance simply because we're not the majority, yeah that must be it

[identity profile] mojotastic.livejournal.com 2009-04-07 07:30 pm (UTC)(link)
LOL! I know. I love that chick, she is batshit like CRAZY. I like how she is like "People compare me to MLV but I am nothing like her! Except for all the trolling and sockpupppets I make! BUT BESIDES THAT WE ARE SO DIFFERENT"

Oh yes. It's because we're just outnumbered and that's why we get upset, not because people compare us to the KKK or say we're horrible. Cry MOAR batshit part of SV fandom.

[identity profile] morelka.livejournal.com 2009-04-07 09:13 pm (UTC)(link)
Wow...
I have no words.

[identity profile] frelling-tralk.livejournal.com 2009-04-07 09:34 pm (UTC)(link)
Only this fandom could compare the bashing of Lois Lane to terrorist activity *eyeroll*

[identity profile] iron-kat.livejournal.com 2009-04-08 03:57 am (UTC)(link)
I'm not in the SV fandom anymore, but....wow.

[identity profile] frelling-tralk.livejournal.com 2009-04-08 12:36 pm (UTC)(link)
It's sad, but I think this lack of perspective has been building for a while now as Chlois fans get more and more demonized in this fandom. You'd think this wank might actually make some people take a step back and realise that wow, it's not all that cool to express hate for real people over a television show, and not even a particularly good one at that. It wouldn't be so disappointing if it were just one person likening the Chloe fans who dislike Lois to the KKK, but there were many others laughing and rooting her on, and there are still people now talking about how apt the comparison was.

When anyone gets to the point when they are hating on real people, I really think it's time to take a step back and consider what is so outrageous about someone having a different view on two fictional characters roles in the story, or why someone believing that Allison Mack is a bad actress is somehow personally offensive to you. It's fine to call out any extremist who's going to call an actress names that are actually offensive, but that doesn't mean you should hate an entire group of people for their opinions on fiction, and then pull the "Oh you know I didn't mean you/you're not like the rest of them" when you get called on it. Like it's fine to hate a entire group of people just because of their ship or theory? People will still persist in believing what they want to believe I guess, but the Chlois fans I talk with sure don't sit around talking about what a whore Erica Durance is (although I can't speak on what's said about TWoP as I don't go there and have no clue if there's any justification in those claims or not). But really no one needs to feel insulted or hurt at someone not liking Lois, and you sure as hell don't need to compare your oppressors to the KKK because of characters that aren't even real.

All I ask for is that people don't start hating anyone until they actually call an actress offensive names, or they've had a bad experience with the fan in question. Don't group anyone together and hate them on sight just because of their views on fictional characters.
