End of year meme
Which TV shows did you start watching in 2016?
The Good Place, Black Mirror, Suits
Which TV shows did you let go of in 2016?
Well The Good Wife ended obviously, but otherwise I'm mostly still keeping up with everything
Which TV shows did you mean to get into but didn't in 2016? Why?
Luke Cage. I just never seem to get around to it/feel all that excited to get started, but it is one of the shows that I do want to catch up with at some point this year.
Which TV shows do you intend on checking out in 2017?
Umm a LOT lol. I seem to keep coming across shows on Netflix that I would like to try out, primarily The Crown and Stranger Things. I'd like to give The Originals another try sometime now that TVD is almost over :sniffs: I'm also thinking of checking out Riverdale in January, I need another teen show to start following now that TVD and PLL are coming to an end :P And I wasn't all that excited for The Good Wife spin-off originally, but lately everything I'm hearing has got me pretty hopeful that it will be a good follow-up
Which TV show impressed you least in 2016?
The Vampire Diaries isn't impressing me that much at the moment to be honest. It's not awful, but I guess that I was hoping for more after all the talk of Kevin Williamson coming back, going out with a bang etc, yet so far it's very much business as usual... The premiere was very good, but since then I can't say that there's been much to impress me, and I'm not a big fan of The Sirens after all the hype that they got as the best villains that TVD has ever had. And the way that Tyler's death was handled was...strange. I am looking forward to Stefan and Damon being switched off together after the hiatus though lol
Which TV shows do you think you’ll never let go of no matter how crappy they get?
I don't know really, I think I tend to stick with most of my shows longer than I probably should, just because I can't let go of the characters once I've really become attached to a show. Probably Doctor Who is the best example of a show that I'm very unlikely to ever let go of though. It changes so much every few years, making it a pretty adaptable show to follow, even if the current showrunner or Doctor isn't doing it for you
Your main fandom of the year?
I don't think I really have main fandoms any more since so much of fandom moved to tumblr? The shows I've talked about the most this year though are probably Gilmore Girls and The X-Files, so clearly I'm still living in the past *g* I'm hoping to get back into my X-Files re-watch soon actually, I've still got seasons 6-9 left to finish this year
Your favorite book read this year?
Goodreads year in review Out of all of them, A Little Life made the biggest impression on me
Your favorite TV show(s) of the year?
It's hard to pick a favourite, but the shows that I'm currently watching are The Vampire Diaries, Pretty Little Liars, iZombie, Empire (I'm behind though), The Big Bang Theory, The Good Place, Doctor Who, From Dusk Till Dawn, Wentworth, Daredevil, and Suits
Your favorite Film of the year?
I guess Straight Outta Compton. Showing my ignorance here, but tbh I'd never heard of that band before, so it was really interesting following their story as someone who was unfamiliar with pretty much all of it :P Oh and it's not a film obviously lol, but I also want to add that I absolutely loved the BBC adaption of And Then There Were None!
Your best new fandom discovery of the year?
Suits
Your fandom that made an unexpected comeback this year?
That would be both The X-Files and Gilmore Girls coming back :D
Your biggest fandom disappointment of the year?
Honestly I was pretty disappointed by Suicide Squad, the trailer really hyped it up for me and got me excited for something amazing, and then I just wasn't that blown away by the end result :( I did enjoy the first half the most with the intro of all the characters and their backstories, but then once we got into the story proper I just found all of the action moments really incoherant and boring. I guess that I'm going to have to accept that most superhero films and action films really aren't my thing, but this was a disappointment after the characters and the premise appealed to me so much. The marketing for this film was A+
Your fandom boyfriend(s) of the year?
Harvey Specter from Suits, he had me swooning!!
Your fandom girlfriend(s) of the year?
Harley Quinn. Even though I was ultimately let down by the film, I still think she's pretty fascinating, and I'd love to see more of her. Oh and I also loved Jessica from Suits, what a fabulous character
Your biggest squee moment of the year?
The Gilmore Girls revival of course! The X-Files was a bit more all over the place IMO, it came across like they hadn't really thought through how it would work to come up with six individual episodes and make a regular tv season of it, whereas I was very happy with how GG wrapped everything up for the characters. (I mean The X-Files wasn't my biggest disappointment of the year or anything, I don't want to overstate it, but it definitely could have been better and had a rushed feel about it.)
The most missed of your old fandoms?
Buffy and Hannibal
The Good Place, Black Mirror, Suits

I haven't gotten around to watch Luke Cage, either. I really enjoyed S1 of Daredevil when I watched it but haven't really felt the urge/interest to watch any more of the Netflix hero shows, which is a shame.

Agreed on TVD. It's been okay, but they did hype up the Sirens too much. Sure they were interesting for a while but now I'm kinda bored of them and it doesn't look like they'll be going anywhere anytime soon.

I'm really enjoying the last season of TVD, actually--the last ep in particular did some things that had me grinning from ear-to-ear with delight. I do think the show lost some momentum with S7 that it won't ever recover, which is a huge pity after it had such a resurgence of energy with a fantastic (IMO) S6. Part of the problem IMO was Plec leaving the show in someone else's care while she went off to set up Containment, which I think was an error of judgment on her part. But ah well, what can you do.

Heh, I just watched the last episode yesterday :) I thought it was a pretty good filmatization of the novel, the final episode especially was very good. Plus after seeing it I can absolutely understand why some people have suggested Aidan Turner as next James Bond :)

That's basically the general consensus that I've seen regarding Suicide Squad. I haven't seen it, but many people were so hyped for it, but the end result led to mixed reactions, mostly disappointment. I'm hoping that the Harley Quinn movie will be much better.

Well, there is this huge spoiler floating around about TVD and it's end, but I don't know if you wanna know, so I'm not saying. If that's true, the show MIGHT go out with a huge BANG... but who knows?
Harvey Specter from Suits, he had me swooning!!
That's normal... he has everyone swooning, guys and girls XD

I almost dressed up as Harley Quinn for Halloween. I like her look and had Googled temporary hair dye and everything. But in the end, it wasn't in my budget. Never saw the movie, though.
Straight Outta Compton was interesting. I had never heard of them, either!

I think The X-Files maybe was my biggest fandom disappointment of the year. I mean, they had so much time to come up with a compelling, COHERENT, story, and instead it was like they just threw something together. There were definitely moments I liked, and the Darin Morgan episode was good (though not on par with his older stuff), but I really wish they (particularly Chris Carter) had put more thought and care into it and made it really special. And then ending on a cliffhanger when they don't know when/if they're going to make more...ugh.

Do iiiiit! I really like the way The Originals does its character/narrative arcs. It's a lot less MAXIMUM SHOCK VALUE TWIST IN LAST 10 SECONDS and more hhhoooooly craaaap IT'S ALL COMING TOGETHER. (Which is how I thought S2 and 3 of TVD felt.)
I don't think I really have main fandoms any more since so much of fandom moved to tumblr? :((( Honestly you're one of the very few I see posting on LJ anymore. It's heartening to see so much response to your posts, though! :D
I think reblogging with commentary in tags is much less effort, plus it has an instant recap of relevant scene(s) pre-installed. What I don't get at all is being fannish on twitter. HOW. WHY.

There was a post I saw on tumblr talking about how Suicide Squad was kind of what people were thinking would happen with the first Iron Man movie- you make the trailer too good to the point that the actual product is a letdown.
