Okay I tried to post a link to the article "The CW Renews ALL 11 Series For Next Season, Including Veterans ‘Supernatural’ & ‘The Vampire Diaries’", but I kept being told that deadline is 'banned for spam' for some reason?
But anyway, awesome news! I was starting to worry about iZombie as so many people seemed convinced that the ratings were pretty terrible and it was at risk, so I'm pleasantly surprised that we're getting a third season. And I'm still here for The Vampire Diaries of course! Although I do hope that we will get confirmation on whether the 8th season is going to be the last or not, I'm not sure that it needs a 9th or 10th season, but I definitely wouldn't have been ready to let it go after this season when there's been no real build-up to it being the end
It feels strange that I only watch two CW shows these days actually, I used to watch four or five of their shows, but I'm not as into the superhero shows that they've been focusing on lately I suppose. Lol I know I'm too old for them these days, but I can't help wishing that they would bring back at least one high school focused teen show to their schedule, the WB and CW used to be known for those shows after all! Still I suppose that you can't really blame them for sticking with the male demo instead, those shows do seem to do a lot better for them ratings-wise

I definitely think next season of TVD needs to be the last. They've been struggling a lot this season, both creatively and in the ratings. They need to announce it's the final season and take a long time to come up with a decent final arc on which to go out. Though it's been quite a long time since they've had a truly decent show-wide arc.
I don't know if I'd want another high-school show but I do wish they'd shake up their programming a bit. I was hoping Containment would do well but they don't seem to have any faith in that given it's late start date and the fact that they're already billing it as an event series. I'd like to see them do another small-town drama like Hart of Dixie or another female-driven action show ala Nikita. Though both of those shows did awful, ratings-wise :)
I still watch quite a few CW shows. The Flash, Legends of Tomorrow, TVD, The Originals, and up until recently, The 100. I may eventually finish out the season but I definitely won't stick around for season 4. Unless they get a new show-runner :)

There was so much potential with the 3 year jump but they did so little with it that it feels like a waste. The storyline might improve now that we've actually caught up to the timeline but they had 15 episodes to do a nice slow-burn up to the jump and they just...didn't. Like why bother introducing the Bonnie/Enzo thing in episode 5 when they made absolutely no progress in their relationship by episode 15? Maybe we'll get a flashback or two to explain how they ended up as make-out buddies in the future but it won't be nearly as satisfying as it would've been if they'd taken the time in past 10 episodes to actually develop that relationship.
And it's the same with all of their future storylines. We see the beginnings of Caroline and Alaric raising the twins together but we have no idea why they're engaged. Did they actually fall in love at some point or did they just get engaged to give the twins a more stable home-life or to stop people from asking too many questions? How is Matt still alive in the future when none of his friends were around to protect him? And so on and so on...The show had the perfect opportunity to develop those storylines so we'd actually be invested in this future timeline but they chose not to, for some reason.

Ditto Caroline and Alaric. I don't really know where they can go from here with that pairing, I would be surprised if it is going to be painted as true love, but it's going to be difficult to explain a break-up after they've supposedly been together for years happily raising a family

Caroline and Alaric was a mess to begin with and I hope they end up revealing that they're not actually a couple but merely got engaged to stop people from asking too many questions/to give the girls a more stable home environment. If, on the other hand, they try to sell us on Caroline/Alaric having fallen for one another over the 3 years we missed, it'll be really hard to backtrack on that and put her back with Stefan. So you're right that they really painted themselves into a corner with that one.
