I've called someone for help with spyware on my computer that I can't seem to get rid of, and he's coming out to look at my laptop on tuesday. This will sound weird, but I hope he doesn't want to take it away with him for a closer look lol. I get kind of paranoid over things like that because of what a private space my comp is for me and how much time I spend on kink memes and the like *cough* I always wonder if they really do poke around the computers that they get send to fix? Oh and I've also been wondering if it would be worth asking if I can update to Windows 8, I'm on Windows Vista at the moment. Anyone on my flist using Windows 8?

And meme taken from my flist

Give me a fandom and I'll tell you:
my favourite female character
my favourite male character
my favourite book/season/etc
my favourite episode/issue/chapter, etc
my favourite cast member
my favourite relationship
a character I'd die defending
a character I just can't sympathize with
a character I grew to love
my anti otp

I am assured by techs of my acquaintance that they have neither the time nor the inclination to look at your files or history

Steer clear of Windows 8.. this machine runs it and frankly I spend most f my time trying to make it behave like Windows 7.. it's designed for touch screens and is a pain in the arse

[identity profile] frelling-tralk.livejournal.com 2013-06-09 04:51 pm (UTC)(link)
Heh, that's a relief! It's something I've always wondered about

Could I update from windows vista to 7 then, or would 8 be the only option if I want to update?

Farscape?

We're rewatching right now.

[identity profile] frelling-tralk.livejournal.com 2013-06-09 05:27 pm (UTC)(link)
my favourite female character
Predictable answer Aeryn

my favourite male character
Predictable answer John

my favourite book/season/etc
Hmm I think that season 3 has the best ratio of episodes

my favourite episode/issue/chapter, etc

The last four episodes of season 2 when John starts to lose his grip on sanity. I also have a fondness for late season 4 and the hardened John dealing with returning to Earth and the decisions he's making with dropping the bomb into a field of flowers

my favourite cast member
Ben Browder and Claudia Black

my favourite relationship
John/Aeryn. Lol most of my Farscape answers will be super predictable, although I did have a lot of fondness for Scorpuis/Sikozu and Chrichton/Scorpuis as well

a character I'd die defending
John, he's my favourite

a character I just can't sympathise with
I liked Scorpuis a lot, but I couldn't sympatise with the hard-core defenders of him in fandom who said that stuff like the Aurora Chair was just the most efficient way to extract information and that he was never really evil as such. I appreciate all the backstory that we were shown with him and why he had the goals that he did, but I never really sympathised with his POV and how ruthless he could be with John

a character I grew to love I suppose that Rygel is the best example of a character that I learned to appreciate more over the years *g*

my anti otp I wasn't really feeling D'Argo/Chiana or Stark/Zhann, although there were never any couples that I intensely disliked on Farscape. I wasn't a big fan of how they wrote D'Argo in relationships, so maybe I should say him and his wife! I found the background in Mental As Anything very disturbing with his rage blackouts

Hannibal!

[identity profile] frelling-tralk.livejournal.com 2013-06-09 06:12 pm (UTC)(link)
my favourite female character: Abigail and Alana

my favourite male character: Hannibal and Will

my favourite book/season/etc: Not applicable *g*

my favourite episode/issue/chapter, etc: Again it's a bit too early for me to be able to answer that one, and there are still some episodes I need to catch up on

my favourite cast member: I guess Mads?

my favourite relationship: Hannibal and Abigail, I find their dynamic very intriging so far and hope they do more with it next season

a character I'd die defending: Will is quickly becoming one of my favourites

a character I just can't sympathize with: I don't really sympathise with Hannibal shockingly :P

a character I grew to love: I suppose both Will and Alana? Hannibal was the character I was really excited to watch when I first tuned in, but they also won me over pretty fast

my anti otp: I've found that I just can't ship Hannibal and Will. I find their relationship intriguing sure, but for all the pimping of the bromance and how Hannibal really loves Will supposedly (this is Mads speaking lol), I just can't. I think I like Hannibal and Abigail's dynamic more, although not in a shippy way, because Abigail is more aware of offering to keep Hannibal's secret, she is more aware that the meat she is eating is people. Whereas Will is soo defensiveness around Hannibal that it just makes me really sad and uncomfortable, I haven't seen the last episode in full yet, but his seizure around Hannibal :/

I'm not sure why Hannibal and Abigail don't bother me in the same way as he is obviously manipulating her too...Idk I guess I see her as more of a survivor and more equal in a way which probably doesn't make sense to anyone but me lol as obviously they're not on an equal footing in any sense of the word, but in comparison Will just seems sooo helpless and trusting, and it's creepier to me somehow that Hannibal actually sees himself as Will's friend, as opposed to whatever game-plan he might have with Abigail?

If my laptop is glitching I'll get someone to talk me through fixing it over the phone. I had someone do a botched job on it once when I sent it away to be fixed.

Breaking Bad for the meme, please.

[identity profile] frelling-tralk.livejournal.com 2013-06-09 07:01 pm (UTC)(link)
I did try to talk to him a bit about it, but he said he would need to have a look at it. Lol I was saying do you think I should wipe it all and reinstall, and he was saying whoa let me take a look before we decide on anything too drastic

my favourite female character: Skyler
my favourite male character: Jesse of course
my favourite book/season/etc: Erm hugely in the minority here, but season 1? It sounds bad saying that the first was your favourite as it's like saying it was all downhill from there, but I just like Walt a lot more that season and I have a huge soft spot for how tightly-focused it all feels with following Walt making the first choice to make meth, the first choice to kill someone, the first choice to become Heisenberg. I'm always amazed that so many people say that season 1 is too slow to get through, especially as I would say that all of the seasons are paced pretty slowly?
my favourite episode/issue/chapter, etc: 4 Days Out and Fly. Any big episode or confrontation with Walt and Jesse makes me happy really
my favourite cast member: Bryan
my favourite relationship: Do you have to ask :P
a character I'd die defending: Umm I don't know really lol. None of them are all that easy to defend really are they?
a character I just can't sympathize with: I just can't like Mike and the fandom has turned me off him even more
a character I grew to love: I suppose Skyler? It wasn't really until seasons 3 and 4 that she grew on me. I also found myself liking Gus a lot more in season 4 when we got the background on him, although there was never a time when I disliked him either
my anti otp: Not a romantic ship, but I do not approve of Jesse and Mike :P

Veronica Mars and/or Smallville?

Smallville

[identity profile] frelling-tralk.livejournal.com 2013-06-10 01:28 am (UTC)(link)
Favourite female character is Chloe
Favourite male character is Lex
My favourite season is tied between 3, 5, and 8. Season 3 is more all over the place in terms of quality, but it's also got some of my all-time favourite episodes and the dynamic between Lionel and Lex was at its best then. And then seasons 5 and 8 are IMO the most consistently good seasons that SV ever produced
Favourite arc was the Luthor arc in season 3 and the Shattered, Asylum, Memoria episodes. I also liked the season 8 Doomsday arc, with the exception of the ending of course
Favourite cast member is probably Michael Rosenbaum
Favourite relationships are Clark and Chloe, Lex and Lana, and Clark and Lex. I can't narrow it down any more than that :P
Lex used to be the character I would die defending, but it got harder to do to that over the years lol, so I guess Chloe? I think she got a lot of unfair hate thrown at her during seasons 8-10
There are a lot of characters I can't sympathise with on SV! But I suppose the big ones would be Jonathon and Lionel as I had a lot of problems with the writers portraying them as the heroes and the complete opposite of how I generally saw them (later on in Lionel's case obviously, but I just hated how they brushed his past under the rug and talked about him as 'the misunderstood saint' in their interviews wtf). I didn't have a problem with Lionel until he started working with Clark and that meant he was suddenly redeemed now
A character I grew to love was Lana I guess? Love is probably too strong a word, but I had no time for her character in the high school years, and from around season 5 I thought that they started doing a lot more interesting things with her
My anti OTP is Chloe and Jimmy, I could not stand what that ship did to her character. I also had a lot of problems with the way fandom would woobify Jimmy and make Chloe out to be the awful bitch girlfriend, even though he was such a jerk to her at times and had such a chip on his shoulder. Seriously even when he proposed to her he was trying to take it back in the season 8 premiere, a few episodes later he was convinced that Chloe wasn't going to say she loved him under lie detection. Moments like that didn't make me feel sorry for him, it just made me wonder why he was even with her. And urgh the fuss he made over a letter Chloe wrote to Clark when she was15 years old good grief

Veronica Mars

[identity profile] frelling-tralk.livejournal.com 2013-06-10 01:45 am (UTC)(link)
Favourite female character is Veronica obviously!
Erm favourite male would probably be Keith? I also had a soft spot for Weevil
Favourite season would be season 1. I don't agree with season 2 hate though, I don't see the massive drop in quality that people talk about, but I do agree with majority opinion that season 1 was the most emotionally resonant season and worked the best because of that
Favourite cast member is Kristen Bell
Favourite relationship: I suppose that I got the most invested in the friendships from that show, starting from the beginning with Veronica and Lily. Oh and Veronica and her Dad of course
The character I will always defend is Veronica, I cannot understand the bitchy accusations for season 3 at all
Logan I didn't grow to love exactly, but he was someone I didn't care for much in the beginning and he grew on me as time went on
My anti OTP was Piz and Veronica I guess? I didn't hate him though, I was never strongly invested in any of Veronica's relationships. He was just really blah to me compared to how well Duncan/Veronica and Logan/Veronica fit with the noir theme, then Piz just shows as regular nice college kid for Veronica to date??? He was just as boring to me as Riley from Buffy showing up as the nice normal college guy right after three seasons of pounding the epic vampire in love with a slayer romance for three seasons. And I didn't even care for Buff/Angel that much, but again it's like at least they fit with the show. These nice sensible guys like Riley and Piz that just wonder in as a follow-up blegh

Ashes to Ashes

[identity profile] frelling-tralk.livejournal.com 2013-06-10 02:27 am (UTC)(link)
Favourite female is Alex
Favourite male is Gene
Rather an unpopular opinion, but I think that series 1 would be my favourite. I know it came in for a lot of stick, but I enjoyed the lighter tone that year with Alex first adjusting to this world and all of the ust between her and Gene lol. Plus Alex looking into her parents death and the final pay-off with the clown
Favourite cast member I haven't really followed any of them that closely since the show. I suppose Keeley if I had to pick one?
Favourite relationship is Gene and Alex
And I'll defend Alex who came in for a lot of unfair bashing early on
I sympathised with pretty much all of the main cast, there really wasn't anyone that I disliked.
I appreciated the depth that A2A gave Ray more than I expected after not being his biggest fan in Life On Mars
My anti-OTP hmm. Any ship that isn't Alex and Gene paired with each other? :P Oh I wasn't a big fan of the guardian figure in series 1 who Alex started crushing on! I can't even remember his name now it's been so long, but that was always so odd to me when he raised her from when she was a little girl after her parents death, yet she seemed to have no mental block whatsoever with lusting over him as an adult...

Dawson's Creek!

[identity profile] frelling-tralk.livejournal.com 2013-06-10 09:30 pm (UTC)(link)
Favourite female is Joey. Yeah the writers went a tad overboard with her in seasons 5 and 6, but she was still always my POV character and I don't share the fandom hate for her
Is there any correct answer to favourite male character other than Pacey? :P
Favourite season is season 3 with the arc of P/J falling in love for the first time
Favourite episode is probably Castaways for an entire episode focused on P/J. I also really liked the finale and the sense of closure it brought. If anything it wrapped things up a little too well lol, because I've seen some cast members say they'd be up for a reunion movie, but what can they really do with it at this point?
Favourite cast members are Josh and Katie
Favorite relationship is P/J
The cast member I would die defending is Joey Potter
The character I don't sympathise with would be Dawson in season 3
Jen is probably the character I grew to love, I used to hate her in seasons 1 and 2 when I was younger lol
My anti OTP was Dawson and Gretchen I guess as those two bored me to tears whenever they had scenes together

[identity profile] stolenglimpse.livejournal.com 2013-06-10 09:21 pm (UTC)(link)
Buffy and Dead Like Me. SPN?

I don't think techs actually have time to go "surf" through your things like that. If I had a choice, I'd stay with Windows 7; I keep hearing 8 is bad, bad, bad, bad, bad.

Have you thought about defragmenting and "disabling" things that start on windows start up that are not necessary to open then? I know this won't fix your actual problem right now but this could give some speed to your computer. Oh, and the less big things you got on your desktop, the better, too.

Dead Like Me

[identity profile] frelling-tralk.livejournal.com 2013-06-10 09:38 pm (UTC)(link)
Favourite female character is George, although I also have a huge spot for Daisy. Oh and Delores lol. And Reggie!
Favourite male character is Rube
Y'know there was so much talk about the quality dropping between seasons 1 and 2, but I'm not sure I saw it? It's been a while since I last watched, but I can't remember having a clear favourite between seasons 1 or 2
I don't really have a favourite cast member, I haven't followed them in much else. I guess Ellen Muth? She seemed very talented, it's a shame she never went anywhere after DLM
Favourite romantic relationship was Mason/Daisy. I also always enjoyed George's interaction with Rube and with Delores
The character I would die defending would be Daisy I guess as she gets too much unwarranted hate from fandom
The character I can't sympathise with is Mason, I never had much time for him
My anti OTP would be Mason and George, I just don't see it at all and I don't think George would have the patience for his idiocy for all that long

Buffy

[identity profile] frelling-tralk.livejournal.com 2013-06-10 09:42 pm (UTC)(link)
Favourite female character is Buffy
Favourite male character is Spike
Hmm favourite season is season 3 or 6
Favourite episodes are Restless, Once More With Feeling, and Fool For Love. In that order
Favourite cast member is Sarah
Favourite relationship is Spuffy
Buffy is the character I would die defending
Xander is the character I always struggled with sympathising with
A character I grew to love was Anya
My anti OTP was Buffy/Angel in season 3, also when the writers tried to force it past high school as ~forever love~

Favourite female character is Bela
Favourite male characters are Sam and Dean
Favourite seasons are 2 and 4
I'm not sure if I can narrow down favourite episodes right now lol, but a lot of season 4 was my favourite arc
Favourite cast member Jared and Jensen I guess?
Favourite relationship is the brothers
Sam is the character I would die defending, he's another character who gets way too much hate
I don't always relate to Bobby that much, at least compared to the rest of fandom. His goodbye episode was touchingly done, but tbh I could have lived without a lot of his appearances
My anti OTP was pretty much Bobby! I didn't like his relationship with Jody (way too young for him) or the way they portrayed his wife, the most memorable thing about her I can remember is her love of baking pies. There was also the secret leviathan they paired him with in season 6 and the ghost of the hunter who had slept with him as well as Sam and Dean. At some point it's like c'mon already. I did like him with Ellen though in the AU...

Nip/Tuck

Thank you :)

Favourite female is Kimber
Favourite male is Sean
My favourite season is probably seasons 1 and 2
Favourite episode is the one from the last season when Sean and Christian go to couples therapy together
Favourite cast member I have no opinion on lol
My favourite relationship is Christian and Sean of course :)
A character I'd die defending. Umm Sean is a character I've defended on message boards a fair bit I guess as he seems to get a lot more criticism compared to fan favourite Christian
I can't sympathise with Julia. Her character just seemed all over the place dissatisfied with her life and never knew what she wanted, but from the beginning it was hard for me to sympathise with a rich unemployed lady who had a maid and a Gardner, yet still complained about Sean leaving her with too much work and flashed her daughters pet down the toilet
A character I grew to love was Kimber. She seemed like a pretty stereotypical part at first, but she quickly became one of my favourite characters
My anti OTP I have several lol. I hated Mattt/Kimber, Christian/Julia, and Christian/Liz. Especially Christian/Liz after I always liked their friendship, it made NO sense to me to show Christian rolling on top of her and thrusting a few times, and then telling us it was such an ~amazing~ sexual experience for her that she was suddenly into men now

Sex And The City

[identity profile] frelling-tralk.livejournal.com 2013-06-11 11:09 am (UTC)(link)
Favourite female was Charlotte
Favourite male umm I dunno really, Big I suppose?
My favourite season I have no idea sorry, I've only watched it all once. I really need to have a rewatch at some point as I did buy the DVDs recently
The season 4 finale is my favourite when Big and Carrie say their farewells and Miranda gives birth
Favourite relationship is Carrie and Big.
I don't know about if I would die defending him, but I do have the hugely minority opinion in relating more to Big :P I thought Carrie was ridiculous in season 1 with her forcing an intro to his mother, checking out his ex-wife behind his back, breaking everything off because he wasn't yet ready to say I love you. She complained later about Big playing games with her, but I thought he was very honest with Carrie and I could really relate to him wanting to have his own life and his own apartment. It annoy's me that he gets vilified by fans just because he didn't want the same things at the same time. The only time I thought he was an outright jerk was in the movie when he called off the wedding. It seemed that both Steve and Carrie were always presented as being in the right with Big and with Miranda, god forbid an independent person in their 30's or 40's want a relationship AND their own space
I can't sympathise with Carrie a lot of the time, particularly her love of spending money that she doesn't have on shoes and then acting entitled when her friends or her ex don't want to bail her out
A character I grew to love was probably Samantha, I didn't relate to her much at first, but I've really come to appreciate her more over the years
My anti OTP I guess I was never crazy about Carrie and Adrian. I thought she was a much better example than Big of playing games and leading someone on when she was clearly never comfortable sharing her life with him
