Nikita has been renewed!!! (And The Carrie Diaries). Apparently Nikita will have a shorted final season, people are currently throwing around numbers of 6-10 episodes? I'm cool with that tbh if it means for a really tight and awesome final run with no more filler, although my preference would be for 12/13 episodes. I guess that it will be ten episodes though as that's what Gossip Girl got?

And umm I'm not sure what to make of the descriptions of the CW's new pilots...I didn't even know that Julie Plec was doing another show, I thought she would just be moving to TvD spin-off :confused:

Is anyone planning on watching any of them? Tragically I may end up watching the pilot for Star-Crossed just for Malese and for nostalgic memories of Roswell lol

Tomorrow people I would cause I liked the Nick version back in the early nineties. I might try Oxygen because it sounds like Alien Nation meets Roswell.

Cool, you were a Roswell fan? I rewatched it a while ago and season 2 is terrible and much worse than I remembered,but season 1 still holds up pretty well. So Star-Crossed could be okay if they do a better job of sticking with their original premise. I'm way too old to be watching those type of shows now though lol, but oh well :P

I'm surprised they're going as heavily sci-if as they are actually. I guess that they've had more success with those shows lately, but it seems odd for a teen network like the CW not to have any kind of regular teen show on growing up like Dawson's Creek. I suppose they're out of fashion these days in comparison to shows like The Vampire Diaries

A friend got me into it post series in college. I watched most of season 1 with her and did buy all three cheaply. I like the shit out of s1 and The White Room sticks out to me/that season finale as the best osncreen alien torture stuff I've ever seen. However, after that it kerplotzed.

I'm not that surprised about no normal stuff. They still have Carrie Diaries and Hart of Dixie for normal dramas. The trend has been so strong in the YA genre to have books on paranormal or dystopian as we can see from Twilight, TVD, and the Hunger Games. So to have them do a lot of sci fi, horror, or dystopian stuff really like with the 100 thing, that seems pretty much what's par for the course in movies and in books.

Also, Ostroff left I think after SV s10 or SV s9? Maybe it took a couple years and Arrow's success for CW to finally shed the "we need shows only for rich white shallow teen girls" and go "maybe we should balance out some general realistic dramedy geared to women WITH some genre shows like WB used to."

Yeah Roswell ended strongly with the first season but then season 2 was even more of a mess than I remembered. The sci fi was sooooo bad! And I hadn't watched season 3 at the time, I think the BBC never picked that one up or something, but I just had to watch the final season on netflix this time after my rewatch and WOW. It made season 2 look like a masterpiece

I thought that the CW were doing some kind of pilot based in The Hunger Games premise actually? Maybe that one didn't get picked up. And it was odd that they never did any of the expected spinoffs with Smallville at the time, so I suppose that they've learned from that with trying to lean more towards shows like Arrow and the TVD spinoff now.

I think it's awesome that we'll get Reign (Mary Queen of Scots) and The White Queen (Elizabeth Woodville, Margaret Beaufort and Anne Neville) around the same time.

I love me some Medieval/Tudor Queens.

It sounds like it could be a potentually interesting show, but one never knows what the CW as I get the feeling there will be a lot of romance and triangles to appeal to their target audience

That's funny, because the original La Femme Nikita series also had a shortened final season. (OK, the real original was the French film, but . . . )

Lol yeah, I was thinking that! It would be funny if they both got 8 episodes for the final season.

I tend to try almost every new show when it debuts, especially the ones from the CW since they tend to make more genre TV than other channels, so I'll give them all a chance.

WOOT for Nikita! I love that show. That leaves only Smash on my renewal wish list! I'm thinking I'll need a miracle for that one to be renewed, though.

I'm happy about Nikita, nearly all of my fav shows have been given the chance to wrap up properly and have closure, so I'd have hated if Nikita ended on a cliffhanger. People kept saying it was safe because of syndication, but ratings lately have had me worried for a bit

And heh yes, I mock the CW a lot, but then I do watch more shows on their network (Supernatural, Nikita, The Vampire Diaries, Gossip Girl) than any other network. I do like that they give shows like Supernatural and Nikita the chance of having a really good run, I've been watching Hannibal recently and it's been quite an adjustment for people to keep talking about the ratings meaning that it has very little chance of a second season on NBC :/

I used to ship Michael and Maria in the first season, but I was never sure what happened to their chemistry after that...Supposedly the actors were very on/off in real life which may have explained that, but I missed their steamy make outs in seasons 2 and 3 where Maria would just peck Michael on the lips lol, in season one they were hot! I always thought that Michel and Isobel would have been interesting to explore in late season 1, but I was torn because of my love for Michael and Maria. In hindsight they may as well have just gone for Michael and Isobel and tried something different, M/M dynamic was so different after the first season when Maria got all glamorous

And heh I've watched most shows in my time *g*

Not many have watched Roswell. I'm watching season 1 of Homeland right now and it's pretty brutal right off the bat. More than Oz and The Wire somehow. I tried to watch it when it first aired and well, it's definitely bringing me down.

Did you ever watch Xena?

Homeland is a show I've been meaning to try, it's just finding the time for it *g* I loved Claire Danes in My So-Called Life, I was so pleased to hear she was doing tv again

And I've watched a few episodes of Xena here and there, but it's never been a show that I've followed closely

Xena is good campy fun, with some great plot and a wonderful main relationship with two women. :-)

Homeland, I dunno. I might not be able to watch this one. I'm trying to give it five eps but it makes me feel kind . . . low. I feel really bad for these people.

Honestly I have a weird love of angst in my shows, so that probably won't be a problem for me :P

I'll probably give most of them a whirl! I cannot resist, sadly.

I also watch more CW shows than I probably should at my age :P
