I don't plan on leaving LJ...but I do want to go over the Dreamwidth.

[identity profile] frelling-tralk.livejournal.com 2009-04-10 01:03 am (UTC)(link)
Honestly I'm so settled on LJ that I really don't want to even check out Dreamwidth *g* I mean we grip about LJ at times, but for day to day use I find it a very decent place, it's where I've been happiest fannishly speaking I think

[identity profile] shansgrl.livejournal.com 2009-04-10 01:07 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, I like LJ just fine...I just have several people who are planning on doing their fannish stuff over there and I don't want to miss that.

Dear Lord, I love those icons.

Is there a lot of exodus talk going on again? I have missed so much.

[identity profile] frelling-tralk.livejournal.com 2009-04-10 01:01 am (UTC)(link)
A few of my friends have mentioned eventually planning to go over there for good, and it's making me nervous :/

Understandable. I get nervous whenever the "people are leaving LJ" talk starts up again, too. It might also depend on how Dreamwidth turns out, since it's still in beta, isn't it?

[identity profile] frelling-tralk.livejournal.com 2009-04-10 01:11 am (UTC)(link)
It's opening on April 30 I believe. It's actually going back to the old days of LJ where you either need a paid account, or an invite code

[identity profile] super-robyn.livejournal.com 2009-04-10 01:03 am (UTC)(link)
I've got a permanent account here, so no, I'm not going anywhere lol. But I answered "What's Dreamwidth" because I've never heard of it before. I assume it's like LJ?

Same.

And I think it's similar yes, but I don't know much about it tbh, other than it was set up by fans and is geared towards fannish activity. It probably would be the better option if we were all choosing between LJ and Dreamwidth at the beginning, but now so many of us have settled on LJ *shrugs* I worry it's just going to divide my flist up, at the moment we're all in one place on LJ, I don't want it all spreading out so we end up needing to check two different places to keep up with everything :/

One of the owners is a fan, but Dreamwidth is not a fannish project. (http://wiki.dwscoalition.org/notes/Dreamwidth.org:_Business_FAQs#Is_Dreamwidth_a_fandom-based_project.3F)

[identity profile] janetmaca.livejournal.com 2009-04-10 01:11 am (UTC)(link)
I don't plan on leaving LJ unless it gets really bad and all my flist flees to greener pastures. I may or may not have a DW account, but I won't sign up for one now even if I don't have one.

Yeah if everyone really does leave, I guess I will have to follow *g*

[identity profile] janetmaca.livejournal.com 2009-04-10 01:30 am (UTC)(link)
Same, but hopefully it won't get to that point. There are some communities I adore and they won't exist elsewhere.

[identity profile] bitterbird.livejournal.com 2009-04-10 01:15 am (UTC)(link)
Im perfectly ok here, and not sure I can handle 2 things

[identity profile] frelling-tralk.livejournal.com 2009-04-10 01:24 am (UTC)(link)
I love LJ :D

[identity profile] mahaliem.livejournal.com 2009-04-10 01:19 am (UTC)(link)
For now, I'm sticking with LJ, especially since I have a permanent account. That may change as time goes by.

[identity profile] frelling-tralk.livejournal.com 2009-04-10 01:23 am (UTC)(link)
:nods: I wasn't even thinking of leaving LJ, and was then a little shaken up today (LOL so melodramatic) by a couple of friends of mine talking about moving to Dreamwidth permanently. It's not my preference at all, but if everone does end up going there, then what can we do but follow *shrugs* I'm here for fandom, not to sit talking to myself in a ghosttown *g*

[identity profile] alwaysenduphere.livejournal.com 2009-04-10 01:28 am (UTC)(link)
Wha's Dreamwidth?

[identity profile] alwaysenduphere.livejournal.com 2009-04-10 01:30 am (UTC)(link)
AH. Eh, I'm a loyal LJer, I can't see myself giving up on it unless everyone else does first.

[identity profile] frelling-tralk.livejournal.com 2009-04-10 01:31 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah that pretty much sums up my attitude to it all at the moment

[identity profile] ladydreamer.livejournal.com 2009-04-10 01:54 am (UTC)(link)
I was ready to leave for IJ, which I liked, and I got a permanent account over there for $30. I'll only go if people are srs this time, even though I like the idea of migrating. However, it's been awhile since LJ screwed the pooch.

[identity profile] frelling-tralk.livejournal.com 2009-04-13 02:26 pm (UTC)(link)
It feels like more people will leave for Dreamwidth this time, but I'm hoping they will cross-post at LJ at least :/

[identity profile] ladydreamer.livejournal.com 2009-04-13 03:23 pm (UTC)(link)
I think they will. Honestly, LJ is pretty easy to xpost to. There are doodads for that so you don't actually have to log in.

[identity profile] meganlynn09.livejournal.com 2009-04-10 02:38 am (UTC)(link)
I...I don't wanna leave!

Heh, I hate it when everyone starts talking about a new journal. I really don't want to imagine what could happen on LJ to freak everyone out enough to move.

And really, I think I'd possibly give this all up if everyone left. This LJ was hard enough to get going, starting anew at Dreamwidth just doesn't seem worth it at this point in time.

[identity profile] frelling-tralk.livejournal.com 2009-04-13 02:28 pm (UTC)(link)
Me too! I've never been one of the people angry enough to threaten to leave LJ, I've always loved it here. I have a grumble on occasion, but generally I can get along quite happily with my flist and my LJ memories, and not even worry about whatever the new policies are that have outraged everyone this time.

Seriously, I've never heard of Dreamwitdh before. I honestly doubt I'll ever leave LJ. It sort of feels like my home at this point and I'm comfortable here. Plus there have been a million fads of LJ exodus and none of them have ever really resulted in people actually leave LJ for good, from what I can tell.

[identity profile] frelling-tralk.livejournal.com 2009-04-13 02:30 pm (UTC)(link)
I've heard vague things about it, but I was surprised at some people seeming bound and determined to leave LJ for good once Dreamwidth starts up.

My answer is more that I'll use both sites if enough friends/fandoms make the move to Dreamwidth. Though honestly I have no desire to move given I have a permanent account here.

[identity profile] frelling-tralk.livejournal.com 2009-04-13 02:32 pm (UTC)(link)

Same. I can't even be bothered with registering my name over there at this point, though if it does really take off in a few months time I suppose I might drift over into checking it out then.

I can't wait for DW to open, but I'm gonna keep my LJ until my paid accounts expires... in at about 18 months. Then, I'll either stay here, or I'm gone for good. We'll see.

[identity profile] frelling-tralk.livejournal.com 2009-04-13 04:34 pm (UTC)(link)
I think a lot of fandom will probably stick with LJ still, so IMO you might lose something from going with a smaller community like DW only. I hope you stick around anyway :)

Unless LJ decides to screw with fandom again - Strikethrough anyone?

I hope you stick around anyway :)
Well, at least until September 2010. Then, I'll either move completely to DW, or stay here - depends with site closes first. My bets are on LJ. *lol*

[identity profile] frelling-tralk.livejournal.com 2009-04-13 04:47 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh I hope not, I have sooo much fic saved in my memories that I would probably die if the site went down completely *g*

[identity profile] --kali--.livejournal.com 2009-04-10 04:43 pm (UTC)(link)
I will buy an account once the open beta starts at the end of the month, but I'm not planning on moving over there, but I need a way to follow all my friends who are planning to move.

[identity profile] frelling-tralk.livejournal.com 2009-04-13 04:36 pm (UTC)(link)
Have you heard a lot of your friends planning to abandon LJ for DW?

[identity profile] --kali--.livejournal.com 2009-04-13 04:39 pm (UTC)(link)
There's about a dozen who are definitely off and won't be cross-posting and a handful more who will be half and half here and there and crossposting to both.

[identity profile] frelling-tralk.livejournal.com 2009-04-13 04:43 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm surprised people are already that committed as I would imagine that DW is going to be a pretty quiet community at first compared to how active LJ is. Maybe when it gets going it could be a really fun place, but I'd find switching over completely pretty boring after being used to how busy LJ is

[identity profile] anoel.livejournal.com 2009-04-10 09:24 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm buying a permanent account at Dreamwidth! I'll always crosspost here but DW is where I want to be. It's going to be amaaazing, filled with all the great features we need and they'll actually listen to users and not take down our accounts. I can't wait til fandom migrates there :)

[identity profile] frelling-tralk.livejournal.com 2009-04-13 04:37 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't know much about it honestly, what new features will they have that are better than LJ?
