Oh my, it's like old times

I really would like to know, where did TPTB get the idea that the Smallville fandom actually cares or would even enjoy a Lexana relationship.

The serial killers and ppl that write to prisoners that watch this show it's all I can think of

I ventured into Steven DeKnight's blog for Wither, and I'm still trying to figure out how to defend "the psychotic pedophole Lex".

MySpace is a crazy place. So far someone made a comment about the one of two Lexana fans making an appearance, and I said 4 (I was the fourth), and then it appeared right underneath their comment (as opposed to after 2 and 3) which just looked weird. But anyway

And ooh apparently Chloe is out to destroy Lana, and Lex spiked Lana's punch with roofies to make her appear happy to be with him *reads on*

ETA Hee, Steven DeKnight just posted I don’t usually respond negatively to you guys, but come on. That’s just too big a slice of the crazy cake for me.

Anyone who braves DeKnight's blog is a warrior in my book. I'd have to take a cyanide capsule afterwards. I truly can't understand the hate. I'm not saying I'm a big Lexana shipper, but I respect the writers' vision enough and respect how they're trying to progress the characters. In that sense, it works for me. It makes the show richer. I just don't see why people think Lana is going OOC and Lex is evol for wanting her.

I think this might be the last time I actually bother to read it, next time I might just leave my comment and run *g*

People seem to be feeling extra volatile because Wither featured Sexana. So basically I picked the worst time to stop by lol

Wow. I'd never been over to DeKnight's blog, so I had to go check it out. Reading the posts for Wither was very interesting. LOL, I just watched the episode today, and I hadn't thought much about the firestorm it might cause. I was just like, ooh Lana's undressing Lex, oh yeah. *g*

Eh, not a Lexana fan but I'm so tired of people blaming Chloe for Lana's choice in the matter. Chloe gets bashed if she warns Lana or not, called overly nosy or not Lana's friend depending on what she does, forgetting that Lana didn't listen to her advice previously (I include offering herself to Jason as well) and just did what she wanted and has snapped at her.

I hate Lexana, resent that it's happening, and even I find those comments scary.

I love SdK, ever since the Bronze forums days. him and his crazy pantslessness. :) that's the kind of crazy love that BtVS fandom instilled in me, I guess - anytime I see David Fury's name on ANYTHING, or SdK, or the Drews, I squee and point at the screen so my hubby will notice that a Buffy person is somehow involved with the show. :D

I just don't see why people think Lana is going OOC

This is the thing that gets me: "Lana's so OOC for being with Lex because she loved Clark forever and ever!"

So? Lana's also *always had a back-up boyfriend* AND she will *canonically* put up with a lot of crap (a) in order to not be alone and (b) as long as her mans is 'honest' with her. She was totally ready to sleep with Jason to keep him back in S4 and even though she wasn't happy in her relationship with Clark as early as ... whenever he stopped sleeping with her, she kept hanging on to it in the clear hope he'd eventually open up with her.

Lana is *terrified* of being alone. Even in Wither, it's easy to read her actions, especially at the end, as being more about not wanting to be alone than anything else (given how clear Lex was in the beginning of the episode, basically telling her that she needed to commit one way or the other). This isn't to say Lana doesn't care about Lex qua Lex because I think she does. But. Lana still hasn't really learned how to be on her own, how to be alone. Moving right into a relationship with Lex so soon after Clark is her typical M.O. She hooked up with Jason pretty quickly after spinning her wheels waiting for Clark in S3 and she *didn't even break up with Jason* before swoonily dancing with Clark at prom and eventually hooking up with him.

There's *nothing* OOC in Lana's behavior hooking up with Lex. Some people may not *like* it, but that doesn't make it OOC.

Why people just can't let others enjoy their ships is beyond me. Maybe this is why I like such out-there pairings that will never happen like Lionel and Chloe, and Joyce and Spike--no one bitches about them when they happen on the show 'cause they'll never happen on the show.

There were the same Clana shippers who kept posting over and over, and at the same time telling Steven DeKnight that they never watch the episodes, but someone from Sweet lets them knows what's going on. And then he was asking why do you spend so much time talking about the show in my blog then :P

The most batshit insane shippers, and people unhappy with the show in general, sem to have planted themselves on his blog as their second home *g*

There was a lot of hate for Chloe, and accusations of Chloe fans never holding her accountable. Some people did try pointing out that it was Lana's choice to sleep with Lex, but I don't think it was getting through

There were some very bitter people in that blog

It's because of the two servers we're on - they get out of sync every day, and she has to fix it manually every time. The problem is we can't know when they'll go out of sync, it's not at the same time. At least that's how I understood it, I'm not go good with technical stuff needed for the site to work.

I also want to point out that Lana knows for sure that Lex hid a dead body for her so she really knows more than Chloe about certain things. A few words by an acquaintance (can't really buy the best friends schtick) is not really going to knock Lana off course. Chloe is not Lana's mama.

I think various advice columnists have told parents/friends/siblings that they can't get their children/friends/siblings to give up a relationship but have to let said person find out for themselves no matter how many reservations they have about the guy.

Regarding Lexana, people can get really personal about it. It's a fandom wank! Clana fans don't like and Lana Haters can't stand either (although, those can't stand anything that isn't related to Chloe), but I get scared enough just by going to TWoP and Sweet, can't even imagine what's like on somebody's blog who works for the show.

Yup. I am NEVER prepared for fandom reactions. They're still always way more intense than I expect. The negative reaction to this week's ep has astonished me. But there you go... I guess that's the price we pay for the CRAZYHOT of Sexana! ;-)

Perfectly right. She walks in with all the doubts in the world and Lex says the right things. Not that they were lies; I believe they were genuine. Lex is truly seeking a connection. But instead of still thinking the relationship through, Lana grabs onto his words as lifelines and is manufacturing the relationship in her head because she needs this. Who else does she have? She doesn’t have Clark and as much as they try to establish these situations where Chloe and Lana share with one another, I never viewed them as friends. They’re only friends through a Clark connection.

It’s alternately hysterical and sad how in two episodes she’s tried to save Lex, trying to be there for him and boning it royally. She needs to be needed as much as she needs others.

And that’s what it is, so many people just don’t like the direction the relationship is going. For all the KK fans who feel that this is a character assassination, I want to ask them “Don’t you think as an actor, Kristin is loving this opportunity to add another layer to Lana?”

Wow, it's just like the good ol' days of Spuffy. *sigh* I was so expecting this. Fortunately, I really don't give a crap anymore what other people think of my ship preferences. I am beyond happy with the way the show's going and I've been through all this crap before, so it really doesn't bother me.

Right! And with Jason, they'd already established her willingness to use sex as a means of forging further *emotional* intimacy: that's why she tried seducing Jason. She felt he was pulling away emotionally and she wanted to pull him back. Given Lex's gentle but unmistakable ultimatum at the start of Wither and Lana's own issues about being on her own coupled with the fact that she also does want to be closer to Lex just generally (hence the racing up 99+ flights of stairs in a *blackout* to define their relationship *g*), her behavior in the ep is wholly consistent with her previous characterization.

I'm taking a break from the meta to recharge the batteries a bit. We'll see how long it lasts (I'm thinking I won't make it past Justice, which I actually am looking forward to *g*). Good to see you on LJ, though!

And if you think about it, it's actually a fairly decent extension of what was started last week: Lana was really uncomfortable with the mansion-wide surveillance cameras. But rather than making alternate living arrangements -- which necessarily might have required her being *on her own* for a while -- she acquiesces to it even though she really doesn't like it.

Same thing this week: she's having doubts, Lex says the right things and she kind of ... ignores her gut instincts and plunges ahead. While I do think Lana cares about Lex for Lex, I also think a big part of what drives her is that she still doesn't really know how to be on her own, with no boyfriend or *back-up boyfriend* waiting in the wings. For all that Lana's changing and growing, this is one aspect of her character that really has remained consistent across the seasons -- she doesn't really know how to be/doesn't like being/doesn't want to be alone. And she'll do whatever she needs to do to keep from finding out what being alone is like.
