LJ news

Control of LiveJournal as a blogging platform has been transferred to SUP Media LLC, a legal entity based in the Russian Federation. This decision stems from the urge to become closer to our users, most of whom live in Europe and Russia. Every LiveJournal user will be offered to sign the new User Agreement with SUP Media. Paid services, however, will still be provided by Live Journal Inc.

Despite the changes, LiveJournal remains an international blogging platform. Specifically, LiveJournal’s policy on user privacy and data security has undergone no major changes.

I know that a lot of people have been freaking out about this, but at the moment I'm not particularly worried, it seems similar to the user terms that most social media websites have? LJ just didn't handle it brilliantly by forcing everyone to sign the agreement in the way they did, but ultimately I feel like my content is still safer here than it is on somewhere like Facebook. Heck for all the 'but Russia' protests, I would imagine the recent change in US law (allowing your ISPs to sell your entire internet history) is going to have a much bigger affect on American posters then anything that LJ may or may not be doing...

Yep, my DW just seemed like a skimpier version of my LJ flist to me, there really aren't all that many people there still

I don't think DW is ever going to become what lj is and what it used to be either. It's just sad that is is changing so much as well.

Oh definitely, sadly most people seem happiest on tumblr or on Facebook these days, but neither of them replace what we have on lj for me

I know exactly what you mean. For a while I was mostly on Twitter and Facebook though my Facebook was mostly centered on my family and real life friends and Twitter was centered on everything Adam Lambert/Tommy Joe Ratliff.

LJ is my home and I gotta get back to it. I still have a Twitter (I actually changed my account a while back and am thinking of maybe deleting it completely (not sure yet). Have Instagram, have Tumblr, or should I say Simblr...

I'm not any more on one than on the other... just lj has taken the bulk of my not posting like I usually did. My life is just so boring, I don<t really see the point in writing that I've gotten up, took the bus and subway, worked, came back home, watched DVDs or played Sims or chatted with a friend on the Facebook messenger or went shopping ... on a daily basis. I used to write about everything and anything. It was hard to be more random than I used to be *laughs* I don't know what change really aside from the curiosity on new social media places... In a way it's all the same.
