Ooh yes, I was definitely not a fan of Sparmony, and you've reminded me that I did not always appreciate how much Spike was being written as the irritating little brother early on, the second half of that season was a big step-up in that respect as Spike and Angel seemed more like equal partners in episodes like A Hole In The World. And Damage was a great episode for Spike's character too of course, but there were certainly times early on when I felt like he was there more as Angel's foil, rather than being written as the character we knew from Buffy
