So who on my flist is still watching The Vampire Diaries next season?

And how many on my flist are watching Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., cause I'm seriously thinking of giving it a go now? I skipped it in the first place because I wasn't all that into The Avengers movie, so I don't know if that means that it will be an automatic miss for me...But eh I do usually enjoy Joss's other shows (well at least I loved Buffy and Dollhouse, liked Angel, and Firefly was okay), plus I've seen some enthusiastic reviews for it really picking up in the second half of season 1, so would people recommend giving season 2 a try when it airs?

I always get the impression that Ian and Paul might not sign for more also, Paul especially has been quite vocal on not always being happy with the writing, but I guess that things can always change if they get really good offers (which I would except from the CW to keep the show going) to stay. It would be a shame to lose a lot of regulars, so I hope that they manage to wrap things up while most of the cast is still intact at least.

I guess that the actors leaving the show would be one way to end the writer cheats though, and ensure that the regular characters actually stay dead :P

Yeah, I would think that all three would have good reason to quit the show while they still have a chance to move on in their careers, and I've been expecting Paul to leave for a while. Apparently two of the three have already signed, though, and one is holding out. At the same time, there seems to be some possibly manufactured drama about Nina being upset that Ian is dating Nicki Reed. On the one hand, she's only human and I can imagine it just being too much to have to mack around with your ex when he's going home to someone else. On the other hand, I can totally see it being a publicity stunt. *shrugs*

Hmm it sounds like the hold-out is probably Nina then, and the other two have signed? I'm surprised that Paul signed tbh after not seeming very satisfied with the show since season 3, but I guess that work is work :shrugs:

I could see them still continuing the show without Paul sadly, but I definitely think that keeping the Delena story around will be a deal-breaker for the show with the fanbase that they have, so continuing without signing both Ian and Nina wouldn't be an option for the CW

I was also thinking it was Nina - when the news first came out, they were saying that they could turn one of the supporting cast into a main, and I can only see that working with Caroline, which means the female character of the three is probably going.

There's been some talk of another spin-off, maybe they'll use some of the TVD characters in it.

Have you heard whether it's just for season 7 that they've signed, or for several more seasons? A seventh definite final season would be a nice option, but I wouldn't want the CW keeping TvD going indefinitely for ratings...

And the spin-off with the originals made sense, but lol I don't really see what other one they could set-up with characters like Matt or Jeremy that would sustain its own show. Maybe something with Candice I guess as she's a fan favourite, but I half-wondered if they wouldn't just write her onto The Originals after TvD ends

I just heard they were signing for S7 - the ratings have dropped so much, though, I'm not sure they'd even get an S7. Also, it's possible that the CW could go off the air in 2016 anyway due to losing a bunch of their channels from one of their distributors at that point so there might not be much more than a season or two left for any of the CW shows anyway.

Ooh okay. I'm kind of oblivious, I didn't realise that ratings had dropped so much, I was assuming that TvD was still near the top of the CW's shows

But it would make sense that the CW is coming to end eventually, I never seem to hear about any of their new shows (other than Arrow) getting the same kind of numbers as Supernatural and TVD, and they can't keep those two ageing shows running forever. Maybe The Flash will be a hit for them this year, but I don't know about the rest of their line-up, most of their desired demo seem to just watch their shows on the internet....

The ratings dropped kind of drastically after Caroline and Klaus had sex and Katherine's death, but ratings drop for a lot of shows in the spring - I'm guessing they'll probably go up again in the fall. Also, the CW does put a lot of emphasis on Internet deals and streaming (and possibly Twitter ratings) so maybe it's not that dire.

Katherine's death is when I thought that the show lost something (and I think that's when some of my flist quit the show as well), so it's certainly interesting to hear that ratings dropped by a lot at around that time!

But yeah I guess that TvD is still one of their shows that get the most buzz, plus Delena always seem to be storming fandom polls, so it's probably considered a success by the CW's standards still :P

I heard that one and yes I can kind of understand how she would find it difficult to be around her ex and his new girlfriend all the time (I've made the choice in the past to remove myself from a similar situation). But all I was walking away from really then was a group of friends who actually weren't proper friends, I wasn't walking away from a job like Nina supposedly wants to if that story is to be believed. I did wonder whether what was being reported was exactly what happened.

There's another theory that she wants out to pursue a movie career - I think that's more plausible.

Yeah that would make more sense to me, honestly I think that she has a better shot than Ian and Paul for a movie career, so it would make sense for her to be the one to want out of the show once her contract is up. Plus as lead female, and often playing Katherine in flashbacks, the workload must be a nightmare for her!
