So who on my flist is still watching The Vampire Diaries next season?

And how many on my flist are watching Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., cause I'm seriously thinking of giving it a go now? I skipped it in the first place because I wasn't all that into The Avengers movie, so I don't know if that means that it will be an automatic miss for me...But eh I do usually enjoy Joss's other shows (well at least I loved Buffy and Dollhouse, liked Angel, and Firefly was okay), plus I've seen some enthusiastic reviews for it really picking up in the second half of season 1, so would people recommend giving season 2 a try when it airs?

TBH, AoS probably isn't going to be up your ally. It's getting mixed reviews from its own base fandom, if you just werent that into Avengers and missed the rest of the movies then there probably isn't anything there for you.

Has Joss been doing any writing for it?

[identity profile] frelling-tralk.livejournal.com 2014-09-09 09:47 pm (UTC)(link)
Have you seen any of it? Honestly I didn't give it a second thought at first because the reviews were so mixed and I didn't care about the film anyway, but since then I've just been wavering because the general consensus on my flist seems to be that things got really good towards the end of the season

yeah, I watched it (huge marvel fan). I like/d it, but it was like Marvel does Torchwood.

about 8 episodes from the end it starts getting good. but I just have a feeling if you didnt see the movies with Coulson and get attached to him early on, it won't be worth sitting there trying to wait for the great epiosdes at the end.

Yeah, I would think that all three would have good reason to quit the show while they still have a chance to move on in their careers, and I've been expecting Paul to leave for a while. Apparently two of the three have already signed, though, and one is holding out. At the same time, there seems to be some possibly manufactured drama about Nina being upset that Ian is dating Nicki Reed. On the one hand, she's only human and I can imagine it just being too much to have to mack around with your ex when he's going home to someone else. On the other hand, I can totally see it being a publicity stunt. *shrugs*

Yeah. I didn't like it as much. I hope this season will be better.

Yeah... I might watch TVD again if they bring Katherine back, but TBH the only thing I found even mildly interesting about that preview was that little glimpse of Tyler.

AoS though- LOVE THAT SHOW. Very excited for S2. To be fair, it isn't a Joss Whedon show- his brother Jed and his wife (Maurissa Tancharoen) are the writers and creators, although they also had writing credits on his other shows.

I must admit that the trailer being almost solely focused on Delena and on Elena's grief wasn't really my thing. I'm fine with them in small doses, but I'm not really here for the Delena show, I'd have liked to have seen more of the other characters as well

And ah okay, they were the ones writing for Dollhouse though, right? Because I did love that show!

[identity profile] frelling-tralk.livejournal.com 2014-09-10 10:18 am (UTC)(link)
Fingers crossed!

[identity profile] frelling-tralk.livejournal.com 2014-09-10 10:23 am (UTC)(link)
Hmm it sounds like the hold-out is probably Nina then, and the other two have signed? I'm surprised that Paul signed tbh after not seeming very satisfied with the show since season 3, but I guess that work is work :shrugs:

I could see them still continuing the show without Paul sadly, but I definitely think that keeping the Delena story around will be a deal-breaker for the show with the fanbase that they have, so continuing without signing both Ian and Nina wouldn't be an option for the CW

I was also thinking it was Nina - when the news first came out, they were saying that they could turn one of the supporting cast into a main, and I can only see that working with Caroline, which means the female character of the three is probably going.

There's been some talk of another spin-off, maybe they'll use some of the TVD characters in it.

Have you heard whether it's just for season 7 that they've signed, or for several more seasons? A seventh definite final season would be a nice option, but I wouldn't want the CW keeping TvD going indefinitely for ratings...

And the spin-off with the originals made sense, but lol I don't really see what other one they could set-up with characters like Matt or Jeremy that would sustain its own show. Maybe something with Candice I guess as she's a fan favourite, but I half-wondered if they wouldn't just write her onto The Originals after TvD ends

I just heard they were signing for S7 - the ratings have dropped so much, though, I'm not sure they'd even get an S7. Also, it's possible that the CW could go off the air in 2016 anyway due to losing a bunch of their channels from one of their distributors at that point so there might not be much more than a season or two left for any of the CW shows anyway.

I really like Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.! It's true, don't judge it by the first handful of episodes!

[identity profile] frelling-tralk.livejournal.com 2014-09-10 12:56 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah it seems like people really fell in love with it towards the end of the first season (and I did love those writers work on Dollhouse!), which is why I've been considering checking out the second season. I'll see, I'll probably watch the second season premiere and see how it grabs me

He co-wrote and directed the first episode, which was meh. That's been his only direct involvement so far.

I heard that one and yes I can kind of understand how she would find it difficult to be around her ex and his new girlfriend all the time (I've made the choice in the past to remove myself from a similar situation). But all I was walking away from really then was a group of friends who actually weren't proper friends, I wasn't walking away from a job like Nina supposedly wants to if that story is to be believed. I did wonder whether what was being reported was exactly what happened.

[identity profile] tellshannon815.livejournal.com 2014-09-10 09:10 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm still planning to watch The Vampire Diaries. I don't know about AoS - I'd thought about watching it but then forgot it was on and then someone told me later it was crap so I just didn't bother in the end. Maybe I'll catch up later though.

Yuppers- you will see some of the same sort of themes surface, the same kind of trope subversions. LOVE IT.

[identity profile] ellensmithee.livejournal.com 2014-09-11 05:56 am (UTC)(link)
There's another theory that she wants out to pursue a movie career - I think that's more plausible.

[identity profile] frelling-tralk.livejournal.com 2014-09-11 10:21 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah that would make more sense to me, honestly I think that she has a better shot than Ian and Paul for a movie career, so it would make sense for her to be the one to want out of the show once her contract is up. Plus as lead female, and often playing Katherine in flashbacks, the workload must be a nightmare for her!

[identity profile] frelling-tralk.livejournal.com 2014-09-11 10:22 am (UTC)(link)
That's definitely got me more intrigued about giving it a go, I did really enjoy Dollhouse :D

[identity profile] frelling-tralk.livejournal.com 2014-09-11 10:23 am (UTC)(link)
People on my flist mostly found it crap at first, but the general opinion does seem to be that the writers really stepped it up towards the end of the season

[identity profile] frelling-tralk.livejournal.com 2014-09-11 10:29 am (UTC)(link)
Ooh okay. I'm kind of oblivious, I didn't realise that ratings had dropped so much, I was assuming that TvD was still near the top of the CW's shows

But it would make sense that the CW is coming to end eventually, I never seem to hear about any of their new shows (other than Arrow) getting the same kind of numbers as Supernatural and TVD, and they can't keep those two ageing shows running forever. Maybe The Flash will be a hit for them this year, but I don't know about the rest of their line-up, most of their desired demo seem to just watch their shows on the internet....
