Just started watching Hannibal and it's really good!

The only problem is I've now watched the first three episodes and I can't decide whether to watch 105 or not as they've skipped airing 104 for "sensitivity reasons". There's clips to fill in the continuity, but on both NBC's website and on youtube they are US only  So I don't know if I should wait for an international (dubbed?) version of 104 to air or just forget it and watch out of order or what

And why aren't more of my flist watching this show! I think a lot of you would enjoy it, it's really beautifully filmed and it's got some fascinating characters and relationships.

I've heard it's good...but I AM SO SICK OF SHOWS ABOUT SERIAL KILLERS! I'm squeamish. I like a clever mystery but these kinds of shows (The Following, Criminal Minds) are too much for me.

[identity profile] frelling-tralk.livejournal.com 2013-04-26 10:58 pm (UTC)(link)
If you're squeamish then it might be a bit much for you, yes *g* If you can get past that I think you would probably really enjoy it though, the main relationship between Hannibal and Will and all of the mind games going on there is just fascinating

We started late; I think 104 aired last night but I'm out of town, so we'll catch up tomorrow.

How are you finding it so far? :)

Whoo-hoo! Another person watching! Now I have more people to talk at.

Yeah, I haven't found full 104 yet anywhere.

[identity profile] frelling-tralk.livejournal.com 2013-04-27 09:52 am (UTC)(link)
You're the only one one on my flist that I ever see post about it lol, I can't even find much of a fan community for it. I suppose that what fandom there is are all over on tumblr :sighs:

And I'm depressed now because people on TwoP are saying that it probably won't get another season as NBC aren't a very good network, but the seven season plan sounds so good and there's so much stuff I want them to get too:/

[personal profile] silverusagi 2013-04-27 10:09 am (UTC)(link)
Well, the flip side of that is that NBC tends to hold on to any show that's even semi working for them. Community is still on (though of course there was drama over that) and Chuck got five seasons. But all of Hannibal S1 is shot, so it will exist and won't be cancelled never to be finished in that way. And who knows, maybe if NBC doesn't renew, it could be picked up by someone else.

[identity profile] frelling-tralk.livejournal.com 2013-04-27 10:37 am (UTC)(link)
Some people have speculated that it might get picked up by cable :crosses fingers: I'm not so bothered about the later seasons plans for Silence Of The Lambs And Hannibal Rising, but I really want them to get as far as season 4 and Red Dragon at least, and gosh I will cry lol if we can't get the second season as that sounds sooo good too.

I don't know much about ratings tbh, I normally only watch cable shows or CW shows that are safe unless they get like 0.2 lol, it's just everyone is saying that Hannibal's ratings are not great for NBC and there's no way it will get a second season if it doesn't pick up :/

Well, they couldn't do SotL unless they can get the rights to Clarice Starling, who is apparently bound up by MGM. Don't ask me why they can use other characters from the books but not her. But yeah, that's far in the future.

I don't really know much about ratings, either. But Wikipedia does list them as down from the first two episodes. Maybe we'll at least get two seasons? It keeps getting good reviews.

NBC isn't doing well, though, lol. They don't really have any hit shows at this point. So it's not really a matter of it not being one of their high performing shows, because they don't have any. Well, there's reality TV of course. But NBC is fifth in the ratings according to the sweeps reports, which is bad for them because they're one of our three big networks, and obviously one of the free networks.

[identity profile] frelling-tralk.livejournal.com 2013-04-27 10:54 am (UTC)(link)
Seven seasons seems pretty ambitious (I don't think any of Bryan Fuller's shows have gone past a second season?), so maybe they will still be able to do the original seven season plan but condense it down a bit at the end which I'd be okay with. I don't want the first couple of seasons to be rushed through, but I'm fine with skipping through Hannibal Rising *g*

And hopefully the critical praise will encourage them to give it another shot then! Also I read something about it not being too expense for them to produce because it's an international co-production? I know nothing about American networks really lol, I always thought that it was FOX that was the one likely to do the worst, and the others were all pretty established as successfull...

Do you mean Hannibal (the book after SotL when Lecter is loose) or Hannibal Rising (the origin story book)? Because while I think the end of Hannibal is something that I do NOT need to see on TV, Fuller already said that Hannibal Rising would not be a text "engaged with". Sort of hard to do anyway, since it's young Hannibal, and we're too far into the modern day for the Nazi thing to work.

Also I read something about it not being too expense for them to produce because it's an international co-production?

Yeah, I read that, too. It's already airing in a lot of countries, so I think it was a co-production with someone, and obviously rights have been sold for it to air lots of places.

Yeah, the big three are NBC, ABC, CBS. The other free ones are FOX, CW, UPN, basically (I might be forgetting one). For a long time, the big three were always in the top three in ratings, it was just a fight between them for which one was #1. But I guess things have changed, what with most people having cable access these days, not to mention variety on the internet.

Oops yeah sorry, I mean Hannibal. Silence Of The Lambs and Hannibal aren't such a big deal to me as I've already watched films for those books, I'm most interested in seeing the early years covered with Hannibal's relationship with Will and his capture.

I wondered actually if they were going to be referencing the Hannibal ending with his relationship with Abigail as he does seem to be grooming her at the moment. I haven't seen the clips as yet (just got back from work!), but I read spoilers for them earlier and Abigail hallucinating seeing her family from the drugs Hannibal gives her is very similar to the ending of Hannibal

Yeah, I read that, too. It's already airing in a lot of countries, so I think it was a co-production with someone, and obviously rights have been sold for it to air lots of places.

Hopefully that will help as people always said that Nikita doing well internationally is what saved it, even though the ratings weren't exactly stellar

Exactly. It's a part of the story that hasn't really been explored in depth.

I wondered actually if they were going to be referencing the Hannibal ending with his relationship with Abigail

There were definite parallel vibes there. Though I guess we'll see, when we know how they turn out in the end.

Sorry can I be really annoying and ask what I need to watch a .rar file? Do I need to split it with something?
silverusagi: (Default)

[personal profile] silverusagi 2013-04-28 03:45 am (UTC)(link)
An .rar is like a .zip file. Inside are the .mp4 or .mkv files for each of the clips NBC put up. You can 'unzip' it with WinRAR.

Thanks!

NBC took a nosedive when they lost all their namesake shows like Seinfeld and Friends.

Looking at the ratings, it doesn't look good. Boils down to NBC's goals, I suppose; if they want to try to rebuild their rep. It has lots of international backing and it's filmed in Canada so it might be OK since it should be on the cheaper side.

One troubling thing is the person who brought it in is no longer head of the department, so it might be on a short leash...

[identity profile] frelling-tralk.livejournal.com 2013-04-27 10:14 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah everyone is saying that the current ratings are too awful to get a second season :sighs: , but then everything was down thursday apparently, so hopefully they will bump up a bit next week at least...

Have you been following the show?

I've seen it rec'd enough that I'll get the DVDs.

I've found I don't really like to watch TV and prefer the all at once approach. Only exception is BrBa so far because I had to see what happened after Full Measure.

[identity profile] frelling-tralk.livejournal.com 2013-04-28 10:28 am (UTC)(link)
Oh yeah I'm a bit like that with most shows, I haven't been keeping up with much this year because I find myself getting more behind when I try and watch one episode a week, as opposed to just watching the DVDs when they come out.

[identity profile] foxy11814.livejournal.com 2013-04-28 02:12 am (UTC)(link)
Hey, I watch and love it, too!

[identity profile] frelling-tralk.livejournal.com 2013-04-28 10:07 am (UTC)(link)
Awesome :D

[identity profile] daybreak777.livejournal.com 2013-04-29 04:06 am (UTC)(link)
I randomly flipped to it but then was like, "No Hannibal Lector, run away!"

There is so much death on TV. And in RL. So that's why i recced White Collar to you. Less death.

[identity profile] frelling-tralk.livejournal.com 2013-04-29 10:19 am (UTC)(link)
Hee yeah I usually don't bother with the gory murder of the week shows like CSI for that reason, but in this case I was excited to watch just because of the possibility of getting a character study with Hannibal. And the way it's filmed (I don't know if you're familiar with Bryan Fuller's other shows like Pushing Daisies?) is actually quite beautiful and surreal, so it doesn't feel like it's trying to be gory and gross viewers out just for the sake of it which I appreciate

[identity profile] sum1-different.livejournal.com 2013-05-07 10:31 pm (UTC)(link)
Cannibalism, yuck. I wish that whole Hannibal Lecter franchise would go away.

[identity profile] frelling-tralk.livejournal.com 2013-05-07 10:58 pm (UTC)(link)
Not a fan of Silence Of The Lambs then I take it? :P

[identity profile] frelling-tralk.livejournal.com 2013-05-08 07:48 pm (UTC)(link)
I actally like the actor playing Hannibal in the tv series more than Anthony Hopkins, he's a lot less hammy

[identity profile] sum1-different.livejournal.com 2013-05-24 12:29 pm (UTC)(link)
That's not ham he's eating. ;)
Btw, LJ says you had a birthday two weeks ago. A late Happy Birthday to you.

It's good to hear from you again BTW! I miss seeing you on LJ these days :)

Thanks. :) I'm not aware of being that absent, but I haven't got it together to post an entry since that Jim Carrey post.
