Erm yeah this is gross

Damon was the one that turned Elena's humanity off in the first place, and NOW he and Stefan are torturing Elena to try and force her to turn it back on again wtf??! But it's totally okay because it hurts them way more than it hurts Elena!

And since when does Damon believe in this kind of stuff anyway? I buy it more from Stefan wanting to follow the ~Lexi method~, but Damon was the one who disapproved of Lexi and broke Stefan out in season 3 because he couldn't leave his little brother in there to rot. His idea of getting Stefan back in touch with his feelings was to take him out drinking, so surely it would be more in character for Damon to try and get through to Elena through bonding in New York or something?

This is a show with some very...odd views. With Caroline and her father in season 3 it seemed to be presented as a bad thing that he wanted to torture his daughter out of being a vampire, but then that came in the same season as Elena and Lexi were trying out torture and starvation on Stefan as a form of conditioning that supposedly works, and even Caroline's father was sort of shown to be right as he was apparently strong enough to resist mind-control and his tactics could help Tayler overcome the sirebond.

Really though what a bizarre message for any halfway normal show to push

Hmm... yeah, that's definitely odd.

I just don't get this whole torture is good mindset that the show seems to have at times

Too angry over probably season finale to manage any concern over other storylines right now.

As ever with these types of spoilers I'm hoping the character to die will be Matt aka the most pointless character ever :pleasepleaseplease: instead of one of my favourites, but it never bloody well is so I'm not holding out too much hope

Who even knows with this show anymore. IMO, they can't be consistent with anything.

It really bothered me at the time when they first of all presented Caroline's torture as the wrong thing, and then just a few episodes later Lexi is showing Elena the best way to torture Stefan into feeling again. Still I always figured it was some kind of messed-up ritual of Lexi's (and not a very long term successful one either) to bring Stefan back from his Ripper binges, I don't know what to make of the show now presenting it as the norm to torture vampires to get them to turn their humanity back on through feeling something. Stefan's goal last episode made more sense to me with appealing to nostalgic memories for Elena, I don't get what just feeling physical pain is supposed to achieve exactly

According to Damon it is supposed to elicit fear. Thing is, we've seen her display a full range of emotions despite this supposed switch anyway- jealousy, vindictiveness, desire, satisfaction, disgust. It's bugging the crap out of me- it's just not consistent. She's acting like a psychopath or a toddler, not like a robot. Which means she only lacks empathy, not all emotion. Really stupid case of tell not show, IMO. :/

Exactly! Which again makes me wonder how merely feeling physical pain, not even emotional pain, is supposed to get through to Elena. It's been pretty clear that she has frequently felt vindictive at the very least lol, and there's often emotion threatening to break through such as her jealously of Stefan and Caroline at the party, or even hints that Elena's dance with Stefan might be getting to her or that looking at photos of Jeremy and her old life make her feel *something*, so why is Stefan not continuing on that plan of trying to get Elena to feel those feelings and remember how she was. Instead let's just forcibly remove her ring, burn her with the sun, and stand there making with the concerned faces.

Yeah this whole show has gone off the stupidity bridge - Julie needs to go away, I swear she's a Troll.

And don't even get me started on the other spoiler I'm reading for tonight episode lmao

I've got to be honest -- I'm not feeling this season much at ALL. It's like, even though The Originals pilot had its issues and things that annoyed me (I'm sure you know which), Vampire Elena and "the triangle" annoy the HELL out of me. As soon as they were back on screen, I got bored. Can Nina just play Katherine full-time?

I might be okay with some of this if Bonnie uses her magic to bring Jeremy and maybe Alaric back at season's end. Sadly, that's what the show has become, though... Jeremy dies and I don't care because I figure he'll be back soon anyway. McQueen not getting another pilot makes me think that's the case even more.

Then again, we also know the drill: Bonnie will use her powers for something big, she'll then lose them again, get them back, rinse, repeat. Sigh.

Yeah this season has felt really lacklustre to me for some reason, making Elena a vampire SHOULD have been awesome, but instead it feels like her character is barely there anymore what the the sire bond and how intent they've been to use it just to push the triangle and let Damon have his turn with her now (sorry, but that's basically what it feels like lol). Even Bonnie turning darker could have been a great storyline, but what with the amnesia and the Silas influence, again her character feels barely there because I'm not sure how much of it is even supposed to be Bonnie. And Caroline hasn't been getting much character development either other than the whole thing with Klaus that they keep pushing for the shipper fans. And yes bringing back Jeremy after making his death such a big deal would be super-lame

It's just very frustrating when a show cares more about plot than characters, because it takes away my reason to care about the show.
