It's been (too many) years since I did an X-Files rewatch, but this is making me want to dive in. I really enjoyed reading it.
I never saw Home until 1997, when an American channel called FX started syndicating older X-Files episodes. They'd do a special every Thanksgiving where they'd have viewers vote on their favorite episodes, then they'd run the top 12 or so picks that day and Home was always #1. (My personal favorite at the time, Jose Chung's From Outer Space, was always #2.) I remember watching it that first Thanksgiving and being very interested to see what X-Files episode might be better than my all-time fave and I was like, "...This? THIS?!" because the subject matter was so off-putting. I remember them doing promo spots with cast and crew from the show where they'd talk about the fan-favorite eps and everyone was gushing about how freaky and cool the mother under the bed was and I remember thinking, "Is 'cool' really the right word here?" because I was just disturbed.
