I enjoyed the Christmas special so much. I love the way the Doctor and Clara interact and seeing their mutual excitement as they rushed from her bedroom to the TARDIS at the end was so sweet to see. My boyfriend and I actually cheered when the subtitle came up saying she and the Doctor would be back next year.
The Doctor specifying that he'd only hold Clara's hand made me smile. And that beat at the end where he puts the crown on Old Clara's face and she becomes Young Clara again and he makes that comment about how she'll never grow old to him or what have you...I actually teared up. They're so good together.
I read something a week or two ago in which an anonymous BBC source said that Jenna originally intended to leave in the Christmas episode and they wrote an ending for her that involved her growing old and dying with the Doctor by her side or something. I'm not sure how accurate that report was, but for a moment last night, I was worried it was happening. And that I was going to blubber. The way he helped her with the Christmas cracker, the way Clara helped Old Eleven with the Christmas cracker in last year's holiday episode was such a nice touch.
The gooey sort of...mouth?...openings? in the dream crabs really disgusted me. They were pretty freaky little things and I loved when the Professor called them out on being like something from Alien. I sincerely hoped he was going to call out other things, like how everything was sort of like Inception or how the Doctor half-quoted Ghostbusters, I wanted this to be a running gag, but, eh, whatever. Still funny.
