I think that was one of the reasons that Matt Davis left TVD was because he felt like his storyline was going nowhere...

And if they don't find something for him to do, he might again...

I was actually hoping that he and Enzo could kind of bond due to the search of Damon. And I think Michael would have loved to do that (at least that's what he said at Alpha Con), but obviously they didn't feel the need to :( They would have made quite the interesting team.
