(no subject)

I've called someone for help with spyware on my computer that I can't seem to get rid of, and he's coming out to look at my laptop on tuesday. This will sound weird, but I hope he doesn't want to take it away with him for a closer look lol. I get kind of paranoid over things like that because of what a private space my comp is for me and how much time I spend on kink memes and the like *cough* I always wonder if they really do poke around the computers that they get send to fix? Oh and I've also been wondering if it would be worth asking if I can update to Windows 8, I'm on Windows Vista at the moment. Anyone on my flist using Windows 8?

And meme taken from my flist

Give me a fandom and I'll tell you:
my favourite female character
my favourite male character
my favourite book/season/etc
my favourite episode/issue/chapter, etc
my favourite cast member
my favourite relationship
a character I'd die defending
a character I just can't sympathize with
a character I grew to love
my anti otp

Buffy and Dead Like Me. SPN?

I don't think techs actually have time to go "surf" through your things like that. If I had a choice, I'd stay with Windows 7; I keep hearing 8 is bad, bad, bad, bad, bad.

Have you thought about defragmenting and "disabling" things that start on windows start up that are not necessary to open then? I know this won't fix your actual problem right now but this could give some speed to your computer. Oh, and the less big things you got on your desktop, the better, too.

Dead Like Me

[identity profile] frelling-tralk.livejournal.com 2013-06-10 09:38 pm (UTC)(link)
Favourite female character is George, although I also have a huge spot for Daisy. Oh and Delores lol. And Reggie!
Favourite male character is Rube
Y'know there was so much talk about the quality dropping between seasons 1 and 2, but I'm not sure I saw it? It's been a while since I last watched, but I can't remember having a clear favourite between seasons 1 or 2
I don't really have a favourite cast member, I haven't followed them in much else. I guess Ellen Muth? She seemed very talented, it's a shame she never went anywhere after DLM
Favourite romantic relationship was Mason/Daisy. I also always enjoyed George's interaction with Rube and with Delores
The character I would die defending would be Daisy I guess as she gets too much unwarranted hate from fandom
The character I can't sympathise with is Mason, I never had much time for him
My anti OTP would be Mason and George, I just don't see it at all and I don't think George would have the patience for his idiocy for all that long

It's been too long since I've watched the show myself but I didn't see the difference between the two seasons. I never understood where they actually went with the movie though. I thought that would explain things but... nope.

Oh Mason. Mason, Mason, Mason... Nope, can't get behind him. I don't see George/Mason... maybe in passing but that's it. Daisy and him though :)

I liked that both Mason and Daisy were damaged together, I think George would have got sick of his shit fast! I only really saw shippy vibes between George and Mason in the pilot, the show seemed to lose interest in it after that

And Bryan Fuller keeps insisting DLM was cancelled because of loss of quality (ratings were strong at the time it was cancelled) but I haven't seen any fans agree with him, so that all seems a bit weird. I think there was bad blood because Showtime changed some of his original ideas, so idk if he was the one who wanted it cancelled or what

And yeah the movie was awful at keeping the family feel between the reapers, especially with Rube gone. Mason and Daisy were both written (and portrayed in Daisy's case) horribly. The only parts of the movie I enjoyed were George with Delores at Happy Time. And the scenes with Reggie if I ignore the series canon

The movie was on TV a couple weeks ago and mom asked questions about it and I just told her she kinda needed to have seen the show to understand it but, at the same time, you don't really need to as it's totally AU, if you'd like, to the series.

Okay, I didn't say it like that but I went to tell her the short summary and then proceeded by telling her the movie was supposed to be a continuation and answer to the end of the show but it became something else and not as good.

She lost interest.

Lol yeah, I'm surprised that it was even on tv as it always seemed like a straight to DVD movie that was very much for the fans only. Only the cast members missing or recast meant it didn't thrill the fans either :/ I don't know why they couldn't at least wait until the original actress for Daisy was available

I know. That was just weird. It did surprise me to see it on TV. I caught it on the car scene with Reggie driving and didn't even recognize it at first.

Buffy

[identity profile] frelling-tralk.livejournal.com 2013-06-10 09:42 pm (UTC)(link)
Favourite female character is Buffy
Favourite male character is Spike
Hmm favourite season is season 3 or 6
Favourite episodes are Restless, Once More With Feeling, and Fool For Love. In that order
Favourite cast member is Sarah
Favourite relationship is Spuffy
Buffy is the character I would die defending
Xander is the character I always struggled with sympathising with
A character I grew to love was Anya
My anti OTP was Buffy/Angel in season 3, also when the writers tried to force it past high school as ~forever love~

Re: Buffy

[identity profile] stolenglimpse.livejournal.com 2013-06-10 09:52 pm (UTC)(link)
When Buffy killed Angel in Becoming Part 2, I was done with that ship. They had nice little moments in season 3 but it was too much. I love I Will Remember You in Angel though and I love that he came when Joyce died and I like that he had to see Buffy when she came back from the dead but forever and ever love? Nope, not anymore.

Anya went from annoying to pretty sweet and fun and loyal with little kinks (not sexual ones but her Bunny scare, for one).

Xander's hard to make a final decision on. You like him, then you don't and back and so on...

Yeah I did like the IWRY episode, but in general I thought their story was played out after the first two seasons. I hated how starry-eyed and silly they made Buffy in Chosen with her cookie dough speech and her talking in Selfless about how she will never love anyone more than her high school boyfriend (sorry, Buffy, that would be 'my lover'), it just seemed like such character regression

I so did not need that whole thing in Chosen. Especially with everything with Spike and all. I can understand Selfless but still. It's like Angel's in the room and Buffy's 16 again... just... ugh!

Supernatural

[identity profile] frelling-tralk.livejournal.com 2013-06-10 09:53 pm (UTC)(link)
Favourite female character is Bela
Favourite male characters are Sam and Dean
Favourite seasons are 2 and 4
I'm not sure if I can narrow down favourite episodes right now lol, but a lot of season 4 was my favourite arc
Favourite cast member Jared and Jensen I guess?
Favourite relationship is the brothers
Sam is the character I would die defending, he's another character who gets way too much hate
I don't always relate to Bobby that much, at least compared to the rest of fandom. His goodbye episode was touchingly done, but tbh I could have lived without a lot of his appearances
My anti OTP was pretty much Bobby! I didn't like his relationship with Jody (way too young for him) or the way they portrayed his wife, the most memorable thing about her I can remember is her love of baking pies. There was also the secret leviathan they paired him with in season 6 and the ghost of the hunter who had slept with him as well as Sam and Dean. At some point it's like c'mon already. I did like him with Ellen though in the AU...

I loved the Ellen/Bobby AU!!! After that season... I think anyway... is that the one where Cas is God in the finale? Or Leviathan!Cas... I missed everything after that because I moved and mom's a TV hog. I need to seriously catch up.

I liked Bobby as the second dad but, as I said, I missed too much to really tell. I was shocked to learn he died and I saw an episode where he's a ghost and the boys are chasing him or something but that's it.

Bela, I disliked her so much but I'd have to watch again. I loved original Ruby. Ellen was great.

I wish I had followed regularly but real life made it otherwise. Thank God for DVDs *laughs*

[identity profile] frelling-tralk.livejournal.com 2013-06-11 11:15 am (UTC)(link)
Yep, that was season 6. I watched season 7, but I still need to catch up on season 8 as well

And yeah Bobby is the fav favourite, but his grumpy old man persona just never did much for me and I got kind of sick of 'oh balls' and 'injits' all the time lol. I did generally enjoy his scenes with Dean, especially him hugging him in the season 2 finale, but he was always a character that I could take or leave other than that. I would prefer Ellen as an older parental figure for them I think, she kicked ass

It seemed like a lot of people hated Bela, including the writers with the way they now talk about her  But I thought she was awesome, so snarky and fun and I loved her dynamic with Dean. I wish they had explored her past more and her reasons for making the deal, instead of just the one quick flashback and then never mention her again

[identity profile] stolenglimpse.livejournal.com 2013-06-13 12:53 pm (UTC)(link)
I think the fans would have grown to like Bela better if she had lasted more than she did but then again, the fans in general don't like female characters in this show. Especially if Sam and/or Dean feel an interest towards them. Or the girl towards one of the boys. Except maybe Lisa for Dean when Sam died. IDK.

[identity profile] frelling-tralk.livejournal.com 2013-06-13 01:03 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah I think they never really gave Bela a chance. She had a good intro episode, we got a lot more of her in her next episode including hints of her having killed her family (an episode Kripke and co now complain about having too much Bela focus...), but then the rest of her appearances were basically just cameo's for the rest of the season, until her last episode which flash-backed to her reason for making the deal before she died. With both and her Dean having sold their souls and being marked for death, I think they could have made a lot more of that, maybe through contrasting Bela being willing to do anything to save herself in comparison to Dean and his having certain lines he wouldn't cross with the immortal Doctor for example. Instead they didn't even tell us that she made the same deal as Dean until her last episode

But then I think the same thing about Jo. She had her intro episode and a lot more screentime in No Exit, and then the writers basically gave up on her. I don't understand why they don't respond to hostile fan reaction by developing those characters more and giving viewers reason to love them, that's what Joss would have done. SPN writers seemed to basically give up after a couple of episodes and then blame the fans for not accepting female characters, even though often audiences are iffy with any new character at first until they get to know them better and writers do more with them. Jo's return in season 5 showed that many fans would have been open to her if the writers have given her more of a chance. For all the fuss made about Jo, Ellen, and the Roadhouse in season 2, they really only played a very small part before Kripke and the writers decided that it wasn't working out

And I don't even know how to defrag embarrassingly :/ I will ask the tech guy some of these questions tomorrow! :P

[identity profile] stolenglimpse.livejournal.com 2013-06-11 02:43 am (UTC)(link)
Good things to know, really. Your problem is bigger than this obviously what with crashing programs and stuff but it can help on the speed at least :)
