Joss Whedon (MARVEL’S THE AVENGERS, Buffy the Vampire Slayer) shows us not all heroes are super with MARVEL’S AGENTS OF S.H.I.E.L.D.

Fresh from his role in the summer’s box office smash, MARVEL’S THE AVENGERS, Agent Phil Coulson (Clark Gregg) returns to the worldwide law enforcement organization S.H.I.E.L.D. He puts together a small, highly trained, team of Agents to tackle the cases that haven’t been classified yet—the new, the strange and the unknown. That team consists of straight arrow Agent Grant Ward (Brett Dalton), an expert in combat and espionage; pilot and martial artist Agent Melinda May (Ming-Na Wen); and brilliant if socially awkward scientists Agent Leo Fitz (Iain De Caestecker) and Agent Jemma Simmons (Elizabeth Henstridge). Their initial investigations lead them to civilian computer hacker Skye (Chloe Bennet).

Prepare for an epic adventure that showcases the hope and wonder of the human spirit. This is a world of Super Heroes, aliens and the unusual—of action, spectacle and world spanning stories. The show will speak to the human condition through the lens of our very human, non-powered S.H.I.E.L.D agents—that together we are greater than we are apart, and that we can make a difference in the world.

Executive Produced and co-written by Joss Whedon, Jed Whedon & Maurissa Tancharoen (Dollhouse, Dr.Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog), Jeffrey Bell (Angel, Alias) and Jeph Loeb (Smallville, Lost, Heroes) comes Marvel’s first live-action TV series, MARVEL’S AGENTS OF S.H.I.E.L.D.

So who is planning to watch? I have watched all of Joss's other shows, but I was pretty underwhelmed by The Avengers movies tbh after all the hype... I kind of went into that one blind because my flist kept raving about it, and Idk it seemed well-done sure, but I would have never ordinarily watched a movie like that quite honestly because it's just not so not my sort of thing. So yeah, I think I'll be going this a miss

It will be the first Joss show that I don't watch, that will feel kind of weird :P Even Firefly I eventually caught up on

I think that I will probably give it a chance because of Whedon and because I hope to see some of my beloved actors like Enver Gjokaj. But I'm not jumping in my room because of it and even with The Avengers movie I was more focused on Loki and Thor above anyone else.

Oh I would love to see Enver Gjokaj in something again, he really deserves more than just the sometimes guest spots that he's been doing. It's strange how the actors that you think will be the break-out stars (Alexis on Angel as well) end up doing basically doing after their show ends

Yeah, I'm in two minds about it because the Avengers did nothing for me but I usually love all things Joss. I'll probably not bother unless I hear from people that watch that it's more Joss and less Avengers.

because the Avengers did nothing for me

Same! I was really expecting a lot more after all the critical and fan praise I was reading, so I convinced some other people to see it with me, and it didn't impress any of us much. I mean you couldn't call it a bad film or anything, but still it just didn't wow me and I feel a bit left out of all the squee I keep seeing. I guess that maybe it would have helped if I was familiar with the source material, or had seen any of the previous films :shrugs: I didn't even realise at the time that there were previous films to catch up on lol, it was more just ooh this is the big new Joss Wheadon film that everyone is raving about, I must see it

I plan on missing it. Whedon's not my favourite writer and it doesn't seem like the sort of show I'd like. TBH I like super hero movies but I require more for my television viewing.

It's not a show I would ever normally watch either, I would only consider it because I do usually like Joss's writing, but well Firefly taught me that if I'm not interested in the premise of the show that it's probably not going to work out for me

That's probably best. Honestly after seeing what happened with Firefly I worry about how fans will react to the new show.

Yep, ABC better hope that the fans won't end up gunning for them the way they did with FOX :P

Meep! I wonder how long (if at all) it took Fox to bounce back.

They did hang on to Dollhouse longer than they probably would have otherwise, I'm guessing that was because they feared the wrath of Joss fans if another if his shows got cancelled by them after jut 13 episodes!

Might give it a shot after the inevitable "Better than Buffy, Angel, Firefly, Dollhouse combined!" hype. Not so much for Joss because I've kinda given up on the idea he has anything interesting to say, but I like Jeff Bell's stuff.

I'm not sure how much hype there will be. Dollhouse did get criticised a lot from the beginning, so if this show doesn't take off and wow people right away then it might well be in for the same, especially if fans of the movie come to it with big expectations and they aren't met. I wonder if even Firefly would have been praised and mourned as much as it was if it was airing now, instead of after Bts and Ats when Joss could do no wrong in a lot of people's eyes

I am looking forward to it because it sounds a bit X-Files, and X-Files was my one true TV love before Buffy the Vampire Slayer came along.

Superhero movies -- sometimes I like them because I like fantasy adventure, sometimes they bore me because I'm not into costumed heroes per se.

I liked The Avengers a lot, and it was definitely because of the Joss touch with the characters and the humor. Also, he finally got The Hulk/Dr. Banner characterization right, which neither of the Hulk movies had managed to do. The other Avengers meant nothing to me, but I used to flat-out adore the Bill Bixby Incredible Hulk series, and had very definite ideas about how I wanted to see the character(s) treated.

But the Joss-involved movie that I love-love-loved last year was The Cabin in the Woods.

The Joss show that I only watched because Joss was Dollhouse. The premise did not sound exciting to me, but I ended up liking it. I think the premise didn't seem enticing because it sounded like, by its very nature, it couldn't be about the characters.

Yeah the way that Dollhouse was spoken of and promoted, I would have never watched it if Joss's name didn't convince me to give it a chance. And even then it was a bit hard to get into it at first with Echo being wiped every episode, but I did end up really enjoying it about halfway into season 1

I loved the Avengers and most things Whedon does (except stupid Dollhouse) so I'm watching the shit out of this unless a few episodes prove it to be crappy.

I hope so.

Also, as nutso as the Coulson fangirls are, I do really like the character and want to see him in his own show. So there's that.

I'm excited by action-adventure thingy that's half women, and also apparently J. August Richards is confirmed for at least the pilot. And also Whedon-y dialogue. And presumably I won't have to deal with the endless SFX action sequences that was my least favorite part of the Avengers.

I liked The Avengers, but I'm not really interested in the human agents of SHEILD, lol. And I really don't care about Joss himself enough to watch just because he's doing it.

(I actually can't think of anyone I care about enough to watch a show just because they made it.)

I'm all into Avengers fandom, so I'll be watching it for that and for Clark Gregg, not for Joss. (Besides, it'll be more Jed and Maurissa after the pilot. Joss will be busy with other things).

If this were a Joss show that had no connection to Marvel, I probably wouldn't bother with it. I love Buffy, but the rest of Joss' TV shows have not impressed me much.

Joss is about 50/50 with TV shows, IMO. Firefly did nothing for me. I liked Angel and Dollhouse well enough, but I wouldn't really call myself a fan? The good stuff just didn't outweigh the problematic stuff the way it did on Buffy.

Actually I suppose that I wasn't all that big a fan of Angel when I think about it. I mostly liked season 2 a lot with Dru and Darla and all of the flashbacks, but I always had issues with the other seasons and I haven't had a burning desire to watch it since it first aired, so I suppose that I wouldn't call myself a huge fan of Angel or Firefly

I always liked Dollhouse more than most did though
